Do Not Forget to Roast the Pumpkin Seeds and it is the Hodgepodge

While you are carving your jack o lantern's do not forget to save some pumpkin seeds for roasting.

Hello Friends,

It is Wednesday, that means it is time for the Hodgepodge.

Joyce asks the questions.

We answer the questions.

Click here to join the fun!

 1. Let's embrace it shall we? What's something you recently forgot to do? Is your memory these days more like a sieve or an elephant?

I recently forgot to grab my drink when I left a meeting. Thankfully I did not get far, I reached down in my cup holder in my car and found nothing to grab to drink. I turned around. Thankfully, some of the ladies were still in the building.

 2. Share a trick/strategy you have to help you remember things you need to remember.

I have to write post it notes all around these days to help me remember things. I also will add reminders on my phone. I am definitely not an elephant.

3. What's your favorite fall vegetable to cook with? Do you prefer your fall veggies roasted, blended into a warm soup, or fresh in a crisp autumn salad?

Carrots!!

I love roasted carrots, drizzled with honey or maple syrup.

  4. October 5th is/was National Do Something Nice Day. Did you? If so tell us about it. Or maybe someone did something nice for you, and if that's the case please share.

I did not know it was Do Something Nice Day, but I did do something nice. I had a hot cup of tea ready for my husband when he came home from work and warm apple crisp for an after work snack.

5.  Nathaniel Hawthorne is credited with the quote "I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house."

Do you tend to spend more time outside this time of year?

Do you actively pause to soak in fleeting moments of beauty in your daily routine? Elaborate.

I love the autumn sunshine. I love the shadows from the leaves and the trees. I love the glow of the colored leaves in the sun. It all is so beautiful.

I do not spend as much time outside in the autumn, because our days shorten real quick here in Wisconsin. It is getting dark at 6pm already.

We walk every day, we soak in whatever the weather brings at us. And here in Wisconsin that can be all four seasons in one day!

 6. Insert your own random thought here.

Mornings crisp as carrot sticks, with trees the tone of chimney bricks.

  1. That is a great quote and quite a cute pumpkin! It's already getting dark by 6:00 pm? Wow! We still have plenty of daylight by 7:00 pm (I think?). I forgot about carrots. I do like roasted carrots drizzled with honey!

  2. I have a recipe for a delicious carrot soup and might make that soon. We're not dark at 6, but the days are definitely getting shorter. I think it helps me move out of summer mode which I've been hanging on to this year. Enjoy your day!

  3. You've reminded me that I have carrot soup in the freezer. I love carrots too. It's still light here at 6 pm but I'm dreading when the clocks go back later this month. The days will feel so short.

  4. Post it notes are a great idea. I am always losing the bits of paper I write things on.
Yum to the roasted carrots and what a cute pumpkin!

  7. I have to write things down, I switched to the notepad sized post-its. It's still so hot here, so I'm still on salads. As soon as the nights cool down I'll start thinking soup. Outside every day almost all day, I love to be outside. And on my couch after dinner :)

  8. Wow! Dark at 6:00 pm. Today, here the sun sets at 6:54, pm. I spend a few hours outside most every days, draining my garden hoses and putting them away, deadheading my Rudbeckias, picking tender green beans, beets, the last of the tomatoes, squash, etc. I love working outdoors but I don't sit in the sun.
I no longer carve pumpkins, I'm afraid. We celebrate Thanksgiving on Monday here in Canada, with turkey and all the trimmings.
    Take care, hugs.

  9. Oh, I like carrots. I just checked - sunset tonight is at 6:41. But once the sun drops in the west behind the mountains, it's shady. I don't mind though. It's been hot and the shade is nice. I don't know if we're staying on daylight savings or falling back to standard time in November. It is very dark in the morning.
Those pumpkin seeds look delicious. I love them but have to be careful. I hope you're feeling well.

  11. We haven't done a pumpkin in a long time. Glad you were able to get your water bottle. I have post it notes all around too. Your carrots do sound yummy. That was so sweet of you having that ready when your husband came home. Lovely answer for #5. Love your random thought also.

  15. Carrots are yummy! It's dark here early now to and I confess, I love having a bunch of night. I don't enjoy when it's bright out at 9 or even 8. Love me some spooky dark. Wishing you a wonderful rest of the fall fun!

  17. I've always loved post-it notes but they are getting to be a necessity LOL
Carrots are probably my second favorite vegetable and roasted with maple syrup is one of the best ways to serve them, I think.
Love the quote, and such a cute pumpkin!
Hope you're having a great week!

  19. Your falls sound beautiful, Carla. It seems to get dark early here too. Your carrots drizzled with honey sound delicious, and the roasted pumpkin seeds are perfect for the season. I love those notes for reminders too. It's always nice to get to know my dear friend even better with your hodgepodge answers. ; )

  20. Ugh I love that quote at the end! Wonderful imagery! We have had warm weather every day, with only one exception that I can think of in the past few weeks. And that is completely seasonal for South Carolina. But we made hay on that one chilly day, haha! I wore an actual pullover SWEATER!!!!! It will likely be a while before I can wear it again but that's okay ... I still have a faithful hummingbird at the feeder they prefer, which to me is amazing on October 9th! I can't even remember how many things I have forgotten recently, hahaha! I hope I always remember to be grateful ... especially for dear friends like you! xoxo 🏴‍☠️

  22. I love being outside every day walking. Especially in the fall so I can kick the fallen leaves.
Roasted carrots are delicious. Especially cooked with sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts and most any other veggie.

  23. Yes to written notes everywhere. Lol. Also, I just remembered but didn't share it was that I forgot my debit card in the local ATM...thankfully it was in a coffee shop and it was still there when I went back.
