On The Road Friday

Many of you will start to plan summer outings. If you plan a trip to Wisconsin this summer, you might want to check out Roche-A-Cri State Park.

We visited last summer, on a hot humid day. We hiked way up to the top of a 300 foot rock, and were blessed with an amazing view. Click below for more information.

Roche-A-Cri State Park 

Native American petroglyphs are one of the attractions at Roche-A-Cri State Park.

The name Roche-A-Cri comes from the French, and it refers to the 300 foot high rock outcropping that is the central feature of this quiet park.  

 Historic Graffiti

I wonder if my boys will show 2013 graffiti to their grandkids on our bridges, train cars and buildings and call it historic. ;-)

 In 1861, Company D of the Wisconsin 1st Cavalry Sharpshooters camped on this spot. The circular pock marks on the rock face may have been made by bullets fired at the rock during marksmanship trials held by this unit.

 Yes, this climb is strenuous. I am not use to 303 steps! 

It was fun to yell at the top "We made it!"

We visited on a hot and humid day, the storm clouds began to form in the distance.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Fun Facts about April

April 7th - Bald eagles and Canada geese nesting

April 16th - Walleyes spawning

Growing up in Northern Wisconsin, going with my parents to shine the walleye spawning was a spring tradition.

We would go to Connors Lake, check it out here

We went at night and shine for the walleye. You can see them because a walleye's eye shines. You take a spot light, same as you use when you shine for deer in the fall. You shine the water and you will see the fish.

It was always lots of fun. Something I will always remember.   

How about you, any spring traditions growing up?

We took the boys walleye shining last spring, but did not see any. The waterway has changed from when I was little, so my dad thought the fish may go elsewhere.

    

Baseball!

Today is the opening day of Baseball 2013!

Our family loves baseball. We do not watch baseball on TV, we listen to baseball on the radio.

How many of you have grown up listening to a voice on a radio, that you will never forget?

Bob Uecker is mine. And it is so fun for me to share his voice with our boys.

 We have a local baseball team the Eau Claire Express

We have tons of fun going to the games.

The boys are getting a baseball signed. The players are wonderful to the kids!

Have you hit a 90 mile fast ball?

No, I have not hit a 90 mile fast ball and I have not caught a 90 mile fast ball. I actually think I would try to run from a  90 mile fast ball.

I love watching the catcher giving the signs.
