Wisconsin's First Crop
Can you guess what it is?
Maple Syrup
My husband has always wanted to tap our two maple trees in our backyard. 2021 was the year to do it and it was a fun adventure.
At the end of February we tapped our two maple trees.
Jeremy did all the work with the production of the syrup. I took photos and was the taste tester.
A few changes will be made for the 2022 season. Jeremy will be building a different style of a cook area using cinder blocks. He will also use three pans for the cook down.
I love a dark syrup.
A recipe for a true treat..
Two scoops of vanilla ice cream, toss a handful of pecans on top of the ice cream and drizzle or in my case dump maple syrup on top.
We found fun maple syrup jugs at our local farm store. We gifted our family "Two Tree's Syrup" made by Jeremy for Easter.
There are many fun recipes using maple syrup. Here is one I found and I can give it high fives!! I just had a bowl for lunch.
This is amazing! I'll think of you next time we're having pancakes.

Do not think of Wisconsin, when I think of maple syrup!!! -smile- I think of VT. But why not? You are north, and have maple trees.
ReplyDeleteI applaud him, because I know, it is a time consuming project, and takes necessary equipment, not to even mention, TIME!!!!!

Wow, homemade maple syrup. That is such a thoughtful gift from Jeremy. Love the maple syrup jugs you found at the farm store. The ice cream, pecans, and maple syrup sounds good too.
ReplyDeleteHappy month of May, Carla.

You guys are totally amazing!!
ReplyDeleteWow! That's a lot of maple syrup from just two trees. Looks yummy!
ReplyDeleteGood for Jeremy for making his own maple syrup. We used to tap maple trees when I was young and I kept loosing my direction in the woods but I always went with my brothers who had a great sense of direction. I get turned around very easily especially in a new city.
ReplyDeleteI love maple syrup and always buy local.
Tale care and I think I'll have an ice cream cone with a dab of maple syrup and a pecan on top.
Hugs, Julia
Wow, I would not know how to even begin, but what an exciting project! I did not know any of these maple syrup facts, they are so interesting!
ReplyDeleteHow much fun! Can you tap them every year? How do you know when the syrup is running, or whatever y'all call it. We love cowboy caviar, and the dressing looks extra-special!
ReplyDeleteOh how fun!! I've always heard of tapping the trees, but nothing like this happens in HOT East Texas. I know this is so interesting and wow... very rewarding.. Hope you enjoy the rest of the week
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely amazed that you guys made maple syrup yourselves. That's INCREDIBLE!
ReplyDeleteWow! That is so neat!!!!
ReplyDeleteHow neat to harvest your very own maple syrup! Wow! I know it's a lot of work but appreciated!
ReplyDeleteOh yum! That looks amazing Carla (and Jeremy!). I'm so impressed. I love maple syrup and thank you for all of the facts about it!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! A couple from church does syrup also. What a treat to receive a couple of jars every spring! Looks like you both are learning as you go concerning the process, and recipes. Enjoy! Happy Mother's Day, Carla! xxoo
ReplyDeleteThat's so awesome! I definitely have to try maple syrup on my ice cream. Recipe sounds great.
ReplyDeleteYum! We've never tapped our maples, although we don't have many. I'm not a huge fan for using it on pancakes, but your other ideas have me salivating. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome!!! Another little known fact: Maple syrup contains vanillin, which is the chemical compound we recognize as the aroma and taste of vanilla. So if you use maple syrup to sweeten a recipe, you don't need to add vanilla!
ReplyDeleteMy absolute favorite maple syrup recipes are maple ice cream (just milk, cream, and maple syrup!) and fudgy maple syrup brownies (links below) Even better if you eat them together! :)

WOW Go Jeremy! That is fabulous! I love me some maple syrup and always have the real thing on hand. That cowboy caviar recipe looks good too! Happy Mother's Day, Carla! xoxo
ReplyDeleteSo very cool that you tapped your trees! Next time we get together you'll have to share about the experience, we need to try doing this.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea the health benefits of maple syrup! Thanks for sharing that!
This is so neat! Those jars of maple syrup look so good. That must have been a lot of work.
ReplyDeleteI have a recipe for Cowboy Caviar but I have never made it. We have Meatless Meal on Thursday so perhaps I will give it a try. Wonderful you were able to make your own syrup. Ours comes in a jug ... we'll never go back to the high fructose corn syrup variety.
ReplyDeleteWow! That is good!
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
