Happy March and it is the Hodgepodge!

Dreaming of green.. we are still under lots of snow.

Hi Friends, it is Wednesday and that means it is time for the Hodgepodge.

Joyce asks the questions.

We answer the questions.

Click here to join the fun!

Here we go!

 1. Somehow it's March? Is it coming in like a lion where you live? Tell us one fun thing on your March calendar.

In Northwest Wisconsin it is hard to ever say if it is coming like a lamb or lion. Today the sun is shining, there is a slight breeze and it is 34 degrees..  some would say, 34 degrees coming in like a lamb.. are you crazy.. but you see I live in Wisconsin, and Wisconsin Weather is something that likes to keep us Wisconsin folk on our toes.. because it very well could snow and blow and I will be buried under 8 inches of heavy wet snow on March 31.

We hope to finish our kitchen project in the month of March.

 2. In what way(s) do you 'march to the beat of your own drum'?

I research both sides of current events.

I do not let celebrities or sport stars tell me how to think or what is best for me.

 3. The Hodgepodge lands on Dr. Seuss Day (March 2nd). Do you like eggs? How about ham? Share a favorite quote from one of his books.

 Yes, to eggs.

Yes, to ham.

Today you are you! That is truer than true. There is no one alive who is you-er than you!

Dr. Seuss

 4. Have you read Little Women? How about Alice in Wonderland? Did you love them, like them, feel just eh about them? Why is this question in the Hodgepodge today?

Yes and Yes. I liked both. I enjoyed discussing Alice in Wonderland with my boys.

I do not know the reason for the question.. looking forward to knowing why.

 5. How do you meal plan? How often do you shop for groceries? One homemade meal that was on your menu last week or is on your menu this week?

I sit down with the weekly calendar with my husband each Sunday evening. We look at what we have planned for the days of the week and plan our meals around the happenings of the days ahead.

We usually do shopping every-other week.

Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green peas and cranberry sauce ( this cranberry sauce was homemade using homegrown cranberries from my sisters cranberry farm), all I can say is YUM.

 6. Insert your own random thought here.

"It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold

when it is summer in the light and winter in the shade."

Charles Dickens, Great Expectations

  2. Dream of Green, I can see about 3 inches of green popping in a few of my flower beds, come on Daffodils; though I know it will be awhile yet here in Ohio...perhaps not as cold as you in Wisconsin but...come on Spring. I think most intelligent people read about both sides of current events; problem is too many people ONLY watch or listen to one chosen news source. I prefer written news; and rarely "watch" news, reading does take some of the drama out of some things. Though now, the pictures of Ukraine are very disturbing. I don't meal plan. I prefer to think what do I feel like cooking today. I'm not schedule oriented so don't have a particular shopping day or even given time frame.

  3. I used to plan my meals weekly, but have been kind of winging it now. I try a new recipe every day, most of the time. Cannot wait to see your kitchen pics!!

  4. I always like your common sense answers. I too look at both side of current events and it's getting increasingly difficult to sift through all the false news and real news lately.

I like to plan some meals but mostly I decide on a particular day, depending on what appeals to me. I always have enough food at the ready so I'm never at a loss as to what to serve as long as it's healthy and appetizing. Left overs are also convenient. Meatloaf is always good on the menu.

March came in like a lion and we woke up to 8 inches of snow on the ground. It's such a beautiful sunny day today.

    Hugs,
    Julia

  5. We're dreaming of green here, too (even if there is still a foot of snow outside!) It was above freezing yesterday, so I hung out my quilts on the clothesline to get some air - my bedroom smelled so good last night!
I love that Dickens quote - I've definitely experienced those days!
Can't wait to see the pictures of your kitchen remodel once you have it all finished!

  6. I love cranberry sauce and relish! How nice to get it fresh. I make my meal plans for 5 to 6 weeks and only shop then. Will get bread and milk when needed, otherwise I try to stay away from the grocery store as much as I can. Hopefully no more snow for you. We might get some tonight here. Janice

  7. Hi Carla,
We had great weather today and the rest of the week. It was in the high 50's. I had to laugh when you said 30's is great. We that live in the Midwest love when the temps are in the 30's and up and the sun is shining. Others are grabbing coats with these temps we are taking our coats off lol! Have a good week. xoxo Kris

  9. Wow, you are organized! We just buy food on sale and then decide what to make that day/night. (I must admit, I'm not much of a cook--I prefer to bake--but my husband is a great cook. I expect to eat well when he retires.) I forgot about the "March in; March out" thing. I guess we'll be going out like a lion, because we were 47 yesterday, partly cloudy with a light wind. Not much snow left. Yay!

  13. I do think 34 degrees in Wisconsin is coming in like a lamb. I can't wait to see your new kitchen. I have to get that book for James!!! I love that quote. I was surprised about why...did you find out? I know why. I have never, ever, planned a meal except for having company over for dinner. Yum on the meatloaf meal. We have talked about making a meatloaf soon. Love your random quote.
