Spring Thaw and High Water

Hello Friends,

Over the Easter weekend my husband and I stopped in to hike to Slough Gundy on the Flambeau River. During the spring thaw you witness the power of river water.

Slough Gundy is also called Little Falls, it is a fun spot to explore during all the seasons. I was lucky to have grown up only 20 miles away from the area. I was able to enjoy all the seasons. It is a fun area to picnic, fish or view the rugged whitewater of the South Fork of the Flambeau River.

It has been a cold spring. I was fascinated with the ice forming from the high water making icicles.

"Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive ~ it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we know all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for the imagination then, would there?"

  1. I love the photos with the trees wearing their frilly ice skirts. It reminds me of the fashion of the 1920 ies. The currents look strong in the rapids. I sure would not want to fall in that cold water.
Thanks for sharing another of your nature adventure.
    Hugs, Julia

  7. Your photos are always enchanting and lovely, Carla. I would have loved to seen those icicles forming on the branches from the river flowing. The icicles are amazing. How nice that you grew up in this area. It sounds like a peaceful place to have a picnic or just hang out with family. It has been a cold Spring here too, Carla. I still have my heater on at night and early morning. Thanks for sharing your special place, and I love that quote. : )

  15. Wonderful photo's, but oh it makes me shiver. It looks so cold. The ice formed on the tree is amazing. You should enter one of your photo's in a photo contest. You really captured it. How lucky you are to be able to enjoy such scenery, even when cold. Dark and ugly again here today, but for the time being it's not raining so I need to bundle up and get some steps in.
