The One

Hello Friends,

I am sharing some photos from a recent hike at Irvine Park, Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.

I am going to start something new here at The River. Every now and then I plan to ask a question or two for us to answer. Remember, it is just for fun.

Question #1

If you are married, when and how did you know you'd found "the one"?

If you are not married, how do you think you'll know when you've found "the one"?

This is not "the one"!

My husband and I met at work.  I was working part-time as a dishwasher at his parents lodge. I was drawn to his work ethic. He helped his parents run their restaurant, bar, cabin rental and canoe shuttle business.

We started to go out on adventures. He made me laugh. We had a great deal in common. He was not afraid to try new things, he was strong, yet a gentleman.

At the time, I was working in accounts payable at Marquip in my hometown full-time. And another fella at work that I enjoyed talking with, we would have lunch together with other co-workers. He did ask me out a few times, but the energy was not the same as it was with my husband. I knew Jeremy was the one. And he is!

Now it is your turn..

  1. Hubby and I met at a social group we both attended. We were friends before we were anything else. We gradually drifted together both being quite shy and introverted at the time. I've written about how our first couple of dates weren't really dates. He grew on me and we'll have been married for 41 years in June. He's definitely my one!

  2. My hubs and I met in college as freshman, but didn't date until the end of our sophomore year. I was attracted mostly to his humor, his sense of adventure (bordering on mischief back in the day lol) and his love of life. We had similar values and experiences growing up so much in common.

  3. Terry and I met 44 years ago at a Halloween Costume Party the following February we were engaged and married that September. We knew immediately we were meant for each other. It was a quick engagement and wedding. Forty Four years later we are still together and better than ever. I feel blessed I met Terry. He has made my life so complete. Happy Friday. Hugs. Kris

  4. Long after my first husband passed, and after my oldest daughter married, I guess I had a mid-life crisis, wondering if I'd ever be married again. I thought about how I wanted my life to be and made a mental list. I prayed over the list. A few days after i finished the last item on the list, I met my husband! He later told me that he knew I was his wife the moment he saw me. I feel that God "said" to me He had given me the desires of my heart and I could trust the man with my heart. When I reviewed my mental list, everything on it was what was happening right before me. My life was what I wanted. We've been together 28 years.

  5. Oh Carla, this is so fun!! I met my husband at a roller rink in middle school. We attended different schools, but our paths kept crossing and by high school we were great friends. People constantly told us that we interacted like an old married couple, but we didn't start dating until we were 21 and it was a done deal from day one...but I think we both knew long before that. I can't wait for the next question!!

  8. I am married and we went to high school together. Dated for awhile and then we didn't date again until after high school. It just felt right to me and I loved him. I love how you two meet. That's a sweet story. I enjoyed the photos you shared. Have a nice weekend. Debby

  13. That tree's overbite/overbark!! I met my husband in law school. We were in a group that ran around together and then one of my friends told me that he had a crush on me (sounds like middle school but we were post college grads at this point!!). We started talking more and then studying exclusively and then we started dating.

  14. I met Mark and his identical twin brother on a church single's canoe trip. I was good friends with his first cousin, Nancy, and she had encouraged them to meet us at the Cahaba that day. I had tickets to an event and asked him if he would like to go with me . . .and after that first date, we never dated anyone else. We will celebrate 41 years of marriage in May.

  15. I was a Cub Scout Leader back in the day when my boys were in elementary school. I was divorced from my ex by then (he'd left me and our little boys when the older was in kindergarten). I "kind of" met my second (current) husband during "the Scout" years as his two oldest sons were in the Scout Pack ... I say "kind of" because I didn't pay much attention to him at that time. A few years later, we met again after both our divorces. We'd both moved to the same city and one day saw each other at a highway rest area along the way between cities. And a couple years later, we started dating, then got married. It's been 30 years of being married to my best friend as of March 30 this year.

Isn't it interesting how nature grows around things from the past! Love the photos, especially the carved wood face! Many blessings to you, Carla!
