Volume 600 for the Hodgepodge

Hello Friends, our chicks are here. Meet the 8 M's ...

Mary Lou

Mary Grace

Mary Bell

Mary Jean

Mary Kate

Mary Beth

Mary Ann

Mary Jane

and the babysitter Ernie.

No I cannot really tell them apart. My husband and I just enjoy naming our chickens. As they grow they do start to get personalities, and we will start to know who is who. They also will have different combs, and we will start to tell who is who from the combs.

It all is good fun.

And now on to the Hodgepodge.

Joyce asks the questions.

High FIVES to you Joyce for creating these Hodgepodge questions for us!!

Volume 600!!

1. My very first edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge was published on November 10, 2010 (linked here if you're curious). Tell us something about your life from that era.

I was a busy mom, enjoying my days with Samuel and Atticus. I was a teacher's aide at the school my boys attended in 2010.

 2. What's a song you love that relates to time in some way?

 One Piece at a Time

Song by Johnny Cash ‧ 1976

 3. May is nearly upon us. When did you last need to yell 'MAY DAY-MAY DAY!!'?

Just this morning, when our dog got into a nest of bunnies.

Only problem was I was home alone, so the May Day - May Day was to just little old me.

4. How do you feel about food trucks? Is this a dining experience you enjoy?  Do you have a favorite What's something you've ordered from a food truck?

We have enjoyed several good meals from food trucks. We usually are at an event that has several food trucks to visit and pick what you might like to eat. One that we enjoy makes a fantastic kettle popcorn.

 5. We're bidding farewell to April...what are three adjectives you might use to describe the month you're leaving behind.

Wet

Dirty

Green

It has been a wet April, bringing in a lot of mud on our shoes, but in the end our little part of the world is turning spring green.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

"The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek."

Joseph Campbell

  2. Great quote at the end- it sounds like something that may be in a fortune cookie but it's really true! May Day was just to you, lol- that's not good. Speaking of a dog and smaller animals- do you not worry about your dog and the chicks? I've heard stories about dogs and chicks that did end well for the chicks... Yours are cuties and I hope they thrive! Yes to green!! We got a bunch of rain yesterday and I look forward to more green here.

  3. Awww all the Mary's look adorable. Little Ernie keeping watch is adorable. I know he will be chasing and playing with them this summer. Love all your answers. Hope it is warming up by you. I know you have gotten a lot of storms. Happy day today. Hugs. Kris

  7. The picture is adorable. Hooray for the chicks. Cute names. That is sweet about you and your grandpa and Johnny Cash. Wow, sorry about the bunny nest. Sorry about all the rain and mud but it does bring the green. That's an interesting quote. Take care.

  8. I love the Marys...what fun names! I would not handle my dog getting in to a bunny nest very well at all. The song memory is definitely a sweet one. Enjoy your day!

  9. I love your photo of the chicks being looked over. Did you know that food trucks have to pay several hundred dollars to get a license to sell food? I guess the price is different for each state.

  10. Ernie looks like he's doing a great job at looking after the Mary's, what great names for the chicks.
I really like that quote, it's given me food for thought.

  11. Cannot wait to see the lil M's grow up. Ernie will be a great babysitter. Our dog Tundra got into a bunnies nest a few weeks ago. UGH My three words for April would be Snow, Long and Windy.

  12. Oh I do hope all your little Mary's survive and that Ernie and the bunnies are all ok. My cousin has rescue chickens and they are usually ringed so even though it's fairly easy to tell who's who the rings avoid any confusion.

  13. Good quote! What cute little chickies. I love that you name them all. Ernie looks like a great babysitter. Does Penelope have any interest in them? I'm ready to leave wet April behind and looking forward to May temps and sunshine. I don't know that JC song, I will look it up...maybe I do!?!!

  14. Our Cubs are in Milwaukee today starting a three-game series. I hope the weather holds and that Craig Counsell does not get booed, hahaha! Cubbies are having a pretty good season so far, fingers and everything else crossed. My TG is fascinated with chicks -- no, not THAT kind, hahahaha! -- as was just demonstrated when we swung by Tractor Supply for some equine pellets, which I use for kitty litter. The baby chicks were for sale and he commented on it while still in the parking lot (there were signs) but as we left he realized he'd forgotten to go check out the chicks! Hahahaha xoxo

  16. Ah...chicks!! They are the sweetest, and look at Ernie peeking at them. Adorable! I was just telling a friend with chickens about your names. She said he loved naming her chickens, too, but it made it harder to eat them. 😳

  17. I'll be singing that song now!
What kind of chicks did you get?
