Happy Mother's Day Hodgepodge

Happy Mother's Day

That is me and my mom. My parents will be coming over this Sunday to celebrate Mother's Day. My husband plans to grill a turkey. We will enjoy all kinds of side dishes. And this year dessert will be rhubarb pie.

And now on to the Hodgepodge.

Joyce asks the questions.

We answer the questions.

Click here to join the fun!

 1. Let's compare this May to last May. What's changed? What remains very much the same?

I am another year older and when I get back in the garden I can feel it. What remains very much the same is ... Spring does come to Wisconsin.
Fresh radish from the garden.

2. What's something you may do this month?

Go kayaking.

 3. Mother's Day is approaching (in the US of A)...in what way(s) are you like your mother?

My mom is very creative. I am too.
My mom enjoys hospitality. I do too.
My mom has that "we can figure this out" attitude. I am thankful I do too.

4. Did you have a favorite book as a child? What was it and why was it a favorite.

When I was little my dad would read aloud Three Billy Goats Gruff to me and my sister. We loved it. My dad read it with true drama, making it even more fun.

 5. Are you more of a tortoise or a hare? Explain.

I am both.

Examples ...

I am a fast walker.

I am a slow reader.

 6. Insert your own random thought here.

If your house is really a mess and a stranger comes to the door, greet her with "who could have done this? We have no enemies."

  1. LOL with the quote. Love it!!! I am so happy Spring has sprung and summer is soon to be here. I feel it too with all the planting. I forgot how much it takes a toll on knees and my back. Being in the condo for three years I did not do this planting anymore. Well...... I now remember the work and the pain lol! It is a good thing and makes life pretty. So nice to see life coming back everywhere. The grass and trees are so green and flowering. Big Hugs. Kris

  4. Such a sweet photo. Sounds like a perfect Mother's Day to me. Enjoy! Wow, you have radishes already. Those are nice things that you and your mom share. Interesting point to you being both a hare and a tortoise. That's a funny quote. Take care and enjoy your Mother's Day.

  5. I read that one to my grandsons with great drama and they love it too : ) Also, I'll pop over for a slice of rhubarb pie. I love rhubarb and it's rare that I get to have it. Happy Mother's Day to you!

How cool to have grown your own radishes.
I used to love the Three Billy Goats Gruff read to me as a child, my grandad was very dramatic with the reading too.

  7. I love the Phyliss Diller quote and hope to remember it. Doubt that I would even be able to get IN a kayak, much less out. So you are many steps ahead of me. I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day!!

  8. That is a good quote from PD! I like rhubarb pie but no one else in my family does so I'm sure we won't have it! I had a rhubarb plant that I planted just for pie(!). However, the fruit was way more green than red and quite bitter. I must have picked a not so good variety. I pulled it out of the garden which was a shame because it flourished. Have a great Mother's Day!

  9. Oh my goodness, the Phyliss Diller quote....I love it! I hope you have a blessed Mother's Day with your mom. As I grow older I find myself acting like my mom. She was a great person, very strong willed. This surgery made me such a wimp. I felt so helpless without my sweet Avery at my side. But he had to get back to work and I managed ok. I just prefer him being here. Our DIL Brittany set up Top Golf for us. So we will decide if we will eat all the snacks there or cook later on at home. Our SIL Zach is a great griller.

  11. Love hearing all about you, dear friend. So nice that your parents are coming over for Mother's Day. How I miss my dear mom around this time. Wow, look at those radishes! Your garden is coming along nicely. It's wonderful that you have a "we can figure this out" attitude. I've always been able to improvise or make do, so to speak. I love the Mother handkerchief and the picture of you and your mom, so sweet.

Happy Mother's Day to my very special blog friend.

  18. The difference to this May compared to last May...I didn't think Democracy was hanging in the balance at this time last year, and it sure seems to be now. Something I'm doing this May is getting new window shades (they've measured just waiting to be made) and hung. My Mother was creative and I am as well. Did not have a favorite book as a kid, hated to read back then; and wasn't any good at it. Plus, I was very much a tomboy and was outside doing sports and running around all the time. I think I'm also both fast and slow, I crochet fast, but read slowly...probably one of the reason why I LOVE audio books instead. Got a kick out of the quote, she was a funny lady. Happy Belated Mothers Day.
