Superior Falls ~ the border of Wisconsin and Michigan
Hello Wednesday and that means it is time for the Hodgepodge. Joyce asks the questions. We answer the questions.

Winter Adventurer, that is me. I am an outdoor person. I need to get outside. If I could wave a magic wand my ideal winter temperature for an outdoor adventure would be 25 degrees, no wind and some sunshine. The wind really is the issue. Even on a cold, cold, cold day, if we do not have wind, it will feel nice. I also have found that if you wear the proper clothes, no problem with the winter weather. We just purchased some new thermals and they are so cozy, making our winter hikes more enjoyable.
2. The Pantone color of the year is cloud dancer, described as a gentle, billowy off white shade. The color symbolizes 'peace, clarity, quiet reflection, renewal, and a soft reset'. Of the terms just listed which do you need most in your life this winter?
Renewal ... we will be resuming a project we started in October and took a break from during the holidays.
3. Every cloud has a silver lining, on cloud nine, head in the clouds, storm clouds gathering, or cloud of suspicion...which 'cloud' idiom do you most relate to currently? Explain.
Silver lining ... we had a lot of closed doors in 2025. I am looking at the silver lining for the reason behind those closed doors.
4. coconut, cauliflower, cottage cheese, mayonnaise, onions, ranch dressing...of the white foods listed, which would be the hardest for you to give up? Do you like all or any of the foods on the list?
I like coconut, cottage cheese, mayonnaise, onions. It would be very hard for me to give up onions. I cook a lot with onions. We grow our own. Last year we just about made the year without needing to go to the supermarket for onions. Our harvest is holding so far for this winter season.
5. Thomas Wentworth Higginson is credited with this quote-
"How many lessons of faith and beauty we should lose, if there were no winter in our year."
Agree or disagree? Tell us why.
I agree. Back in 2012 I had a very difficult year. There was a person in my life that was so toxic that I eventually had to walk away from that person. After all the pain, the lesson remained and I can now say the entire situation made me a stronger person.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
And now let us welcome the new year, full of things that have never been.

I've never grown onions but we use so many it would probably be a worthwhile plant to nurture. I enjoy a winter walk if its sunny and still. Not a fan of windy winter weather at all. When we lived in North Jersey we did lots of snowy walks in the woods and I loved that. So quiet and beautiful. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteMe too on the onions. I like to use them as a big part of the meal. Soooo gooooood. Winter day here and it's soooo nice outside. Cold and no wind yet. Perfect day out there.
ReplyDeleteI want to grow onions- I have tried in the past with little success. They are items that I have in my pantry at all times- I use onions in almost every savory dish that I make. I agree about 25 being a nice temp if there´s no wind. I´d rather run in 25 degree weather than 70 weather. I love how you embrace the cold and hike in it. You´re the perfect person to live in Wisconsin!
ReplyDeletemorning Carla. I sure like your magic wand idea. Hoping your silver lining is everything you plan for it to be with your projects...I know it will be. Love your quote...
ReplyDeleteGood Morning sweet friend. Onions are a great staple and I use them in almost everything I cook. I am not a fan of the winter months January and February. I do not mind snow and cold it is the not a lot of sunny days that gets to me. Plus I cannot wear my flip flops lol!! Have a great rest of the week. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed hearing your answers, Carla. I also love to cook with onions. That's awesome that you grow your own. That photo of Superior Falls is so pretty. I've yet to see the Falls in my area during the winter. I knew you were a winter adventurer cause you're always getting out there going on hikes and such even in the coldest weather. And I loved the last new year quote. Have a blessed rest of the week, Carla.
ReplyDeleteI would love to be a winter adventurer but I just don't have it in me to brave the cold.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with resuming your project and I hope those doors open back up to you.
I should really think about growing my own onions as we go through so many.
I'd have to say adventure, but it doesn't get too cold here so I don't know if that counts. I love to be outside most of the day. I like 'soft reset' it feels gentle. I couldn't give up onions! Good luck on finishing up your project.
ReplyDeleteI would have a hard time giving up any of those white things. I could live without Cauliflower. But I do like it. And I cook a lot with onions too.
ReplyDeleteHaving the right clothes in the winter makes outdoor fun enjoyable! I grew up in the snowbelt of NW Pennsylvania. This I do remember.
I enjoyed your quote! Beautiful!
I knew you'd be the snow lover when answering this question. I admire the fact that you embrace the season. Yes and yes again to onions. :) May you see more of that silver lining in 2026!!
ReplyDeleteI love the Winter and snow, and I love to see others embracing and enjoying it! I like to watch people skating or skiing, even though I don't do these activities myself. I do, however, enjoy walking in the Winter, especially when it is snowing, or after the snow. The only thing I am careful about, of course, is when there is ice! I try not to go out when there is a lot of ice, because you can get seriously hurt if you fall.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the wind. I can take a lot of cold if there is no wind. I do believe that even with hard things, we learn something.
ReplyDeleteI am a fireplace snuggler and I could give up cottage cheese in a sec since I am not a fan. I have never been to Superior Falls but would love too some day. Athough have been to the UP of Michigan many times, never made it to the Wisconsin border. Janice
ReplyDeletePretty photo of Superior Falls. If you're dressed for the cold and snow, it's pleasant. I never lived in the snow, but my folks had a place in Tahoe by Heavenly Valley ski resort. We went up every other weekend.
ReplyDeleteHere's praying that some of those silver linings become reality this year!! Such pretty photos...apparently I like snow best when it is in photos!:)
ReplyDeleteYou're right about wearing the right clothing to brave the cold - I'm never without a hat at this time of year but I don't venture out as much as you do. I agree about onions too!
ReplyDeleteI'm not really a fan of winter ... roll-on Spring.
ReplyDeleteBrrr, I do like your photograph though.
All the best Jan
I love that you love the cold weather. Yes, renewal sounds perfect to me. I need that. Yes, I pray you find all of those silver linings. We like onions too. ((HUGS)) for you on question #5. Love your random thought. Will you be watching football today?
ReplyDeleteI'm an indoor hibernator for sure. I think that I would also qualify as a fireplace snuggler. I did think of you yesterday, though, when we braved the snowfall to visit a local shop and they were selling snowshoes!! I told my husband maybe we should get some and venture outside like you!! ☺️
ReplyDeleteI cook with a lot of onions too. Would not want to live without them!
ReplyDeleteOur onions did not do well last year, so we bought a 25 lb bag from the FFA. I chopped, sliced, froze and dehydrated for a week!
