Rock Candy
Take One
Our first attempt at making Rock Candy.
"Mom, is this candy suppose to be this small?"
We do not think it turned out so well.
So, we asked if anyone had a different recipe or any tips.
Lucky for us, we have a friend who seems to be a Rock Candy Professional! Thanks Julie :-)
Rock Candy
Take Two
Our second attempt. Yes, that looks better, kind of like what you buy at the store.
The boys had fun with our experiment.
If you would like to give it a try, here is the second recipe we used. Our first recipe had us using a paper clip and cotton string to form the candy. IIt worked, but the wooden stick seemed to work better.
Have fun!
What experiments have you tried?
Rock Candy
3 cups of sugar
1 cup of water
Boil water, add sugar and stir until sugar is dissolved.
After sugar is dissolved, cool sugar water in the refrigerator. Just cool it, do not let it start to harden, you will need to watch how fast it is cooling.
After it is cooled, pour into jars.
Roll sticks into sugar before placing them into sugar water jar.
You can add food coloring to make colored rock candy.
Impressive! I didn't know you could make rock candy.
