Crash, Boom, Bang

We were sitting down reading. Enjoying a cozy afternoon under a blanket.
We heard a loud, CRASH, BOOM, BANG!
Down went our East side of the basement wall.
We have everything ready to go, just waiting on the weather. But our basement had different ideas.
CRASH, BOOM, BANG
The part with the yellow insulation is an old coal chute. We live in a 100 year old house. We call it our "This Old House". Our home is full of old time character. It is also full of some old time troubles.  The East side of the basement is one of them.

We have been waiting for Spring to Spring so our contractor can get started. I guess our basement decided not to wait!
The funny thing, our boys had made up a little slogan each time they walked past our basement wall.
"Hold Until Relieved!"

The good news. Our weather is looking good for the next week. We are praying for the ground to  thaw and dry.  I will keep you posted!

Have a Crash, Boom, Bang of a week!

  2. Yikes! That doesn't look too good. Even our reasonably new house makes noises, so I know how you must feel. Linda@Wetcreek Blog

  3. I sure hope it Hold On Until Relieved. It must have been a bad batch of cement that gave way to the force of nature.
I hope the contractor can fix it good.
    Enjoy your Spring weather.
    Hugs,

  5. Oh-I hope it can hold the rest of the way until "relieved". What a nightmare that is, huh? Well, at least it didn't happen in the dead of winter. xo

  7. Yikes! That's a bit scary. I love what the boys said. Spoken like true military men. :-) Hopefully the weather will hold until troop reinforcements arrive!

  8. That's a big mess isn't it? But at least you were aware of it, and it didn't happen in the middle of the night thankfully.

A awful bang like that would scare the living daylights out of you.

Hope that it gets fixed soon.

  12. wow, your house is 100 years old! I hope you are able to repair the basement wall soon. Construction projects in the home can be very tedious. Some of these old homes are the most charming ever.

    Have a good week, Carla.

  13. Oh no, Carla! Reminded me a bit of the Nat King Cole song, I was walking along, mindin' my business,
when out of the orange colored sky. If I remember correctly there is even a bit about the ceiling falling.

  14. I hope the floors above were not damaged. I hope they get started soon on repairs. Fortunately, most homes don't have basements here.

  17. Oops first comment didn't go through right so I removed it - here we go again !

Goodness - not quite what you wanted, but great to live in a 100 yr old house. If a house could talk what memories it must hold.

Hope the rest of your week goes well.

    All the best Jan

  18. Goodness Carla, that must've been scary! I am so sorry to hear this, it's always something isn't it? When we lived on the coast of Maine we had a farm house that was built in 1880 so I can relate to these things happening. The good news is that the guts of your house are good, I hope it can be repaired without too much stress. Keep us posted and I will be praying!

  21. Thank goodness all of you are okay. Is this the foundation of your house? Is it lopsided now? Just wondering because we have issues at the lakehouse.

Thanks for your really nice comment on my last post! :)

  22. Oh no - I hope you can sort this out soon. One of the downsides of an old house, I guess.

  24. My sister's old house had a coal chute. It was really cool, but kind of creepy too. Oh boy, I know that you have a new wall now, but this could not have been pleasant to deal with!
