Wisconsin showing off her Autumn beauty. |
It is Wednesday and it is time for the Hodgepodge.
Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.
1. Thursday (September 22) is the first official day of autumn in this
part of the world...how will you welcome the season? I know some of you
have been celebrating way too early, but it's official now so permission
granted. House Beautiful recently listed ten ways to make your home smell like fall (you can read the list here) What's a scent you love this time of year and how will you add it to your home?
Wisconsin is just starting to show off her Autumn beauty. We will soon be heading out on Autumn hikes. Autumn is our favorite time of the year to hike. The beauty of the trees, the fallen leaves and the smell of the cool crisp air.
My favorite scent this time of year is cinnamon. I have a cinnamon candle burning most Autumn evenings.
2. Apple pie or pumpkin pie? Apple cake or pumpkin bread? Warm apple cider or a pumpkin spice latte?
Pumpkin pie
Pumpkin bread
Warm apple cider
3. Do you suffer from what is sometimes referred to as an afternoon slump? What helps ward it off before it hits and/or tell us what helps you shake it off once it's here?
I was just talking to my son about this today! He has been struggling with an afternoon slump for the past few weeks. I shared with him what works for me.
A big glass of cold water with a dash of lemon. I drink it all and walk around.
Movement usually helps me or just moving into a different room.
Ice coffee or a nice cup of black tea are my other tricks of the trade.
4. Ladies-how have your friendships with women inspired you or made you a better person? For the men here today- how have your friendships with men inspired you or made you a better person?
I have several friends in my life that I admire. My friends have been brave, each in her own way. That bravery inspires me.
5. Are you a people pleaser? If you said yes, do you think that's a good
or bad thing? If you said no, do you wish you were more of a people
pleaser?
I have been a people pleaser. It can be very hard for me to say "No" ... I do think it can be a bad thing, if you are changing who you are inside to please that person!
6. The seasons are a-changin'...share a favorite song relating in some way to change (not necessarily seasonal change, it could be change of any kind).
Circle of Life
Lion King
7. What do you wish would never change?
Daylight Savings Time
I HATE the time change. I will begin to complain about it in the weeks before it arrives.
Just leave the time alone.
And yes, I could do without all the updates in technology.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
We watched Mr. Smith Goes To Washington ... produced back in 1939 ... oh my, sadly Washington has not changed ... I think it has gotten worse.
My boys loved the Boy Rangers in the movie.
Watch it this weekend, I know it will make you smile. Even if it is about Washington.
The lemon water is a great trick! I need to do that! I love the Circle of Life, good choice and yes, I loathe the time change! Lastly, thank you for that "no" reminder, genius!
ReplyDeleteI agree about Daylight Saving Time! I hate the changing. It's like self-induced jetlag. And I so agree about Wisconsin the fall. It is wonderful!! I'll have to watch the movie. It's been years. Enjoyed your Hodgepodge, Carla. xo
DeleteLove the quote about no. I am working on that. I usually feel the need to give an explanation even when one is not necessary ;) Fall walks are the best. I have to get back to drinking lemon water. It hasn't been as hot so I've been slacking on my water intake. Have a great rest of the week :)
ReplyDeleteUggh I hate the time change too! It always messes me up!! I like your idea of lemon water for the afternoon slump--and moving around too. I love autumn and I'm looking forward to feeling the temps and smelling the smells it brings. I haven't seen that movie.
ReplyDeleteAnd by the way, now that I'm on my computer rather than my phone, (so I can read the signs better!) just had to say how much I appreciate the poster that said No doesn't require an explanation or justification. It took me a long time to figure that out, but boy, is it important! xo
ReplyDeleteI don't like time change either. But I want it to go away and never come back. Just stay the way it is when it changes in November. That would suit me just fine. :) I've never been to Wisconsin but, thanks to the lovely pictures Cranberry Morning posts, I can see how absolutely beautiful it is! I hope to visit that state some day. Probably not in the winter, however. I love winter but I don't love being a walking Popsicle. LOL
ReplyDeleteLove the "NO" quote, I must share this....have a good week!
ReplyDeleteCheers!

I enjoyed reading the questions and your answers! Right now my house smells like apples because I've been boring Pier 1's fresh apple candle.
ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite time of year. Just walking Theo, I notice the hints of fall in the air. I like to burn cinnamon, pumpkin, and apple spice candles too. I look forward to you sharing about your family's fall hikes. xo
ReplyDeleteWe are alike in many ways. I absolutely despise the time change for one reason: no light. As I get older, I hate it even worse. Even at my age, it is still hard to say no. I am going to try the lemon in water...and no calories! This picture of the path is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI miss autumn and the fall colors in Wisconsin, where I lived til I was 21.
ReplyDeleteI hate the time change too...just leave it along. People can adjust when they get up and when they go to bed if they want to! lol I don't have a whole lot to complain about so I pick this one! hahaha! I'm off to the Farmer's mkt in the morning! Wish I could see you at mine! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteOk, so I am a pumpkin pie and bread girl, too ~ only instead of cider I would choose hot cocoa. The afternoon slump has had a hold on me lately and for the first time in years, I have given in and napped! Oh boy, I can't believe it...I am not generally a napper! Lots of brave women in my life, too, and I am grateful for them. No is a complete sentence and yes, I forget that all the time...and great movie. I am an oldies movie buff. A classic for sure! Phew! That was a lot of information! Is fall over yet? ;)
ReplyDeleteAw, Circle of Life! I wish I'd said that one : ) I'm excited for you and your trip. That is definitely on my to-see list, and hopefully sometime in the next two years we'll do a western road trip. My daughter is in WA for that long, so we could land there. Or start there...safe travels!!
ReplyDeleteI have to try the lemon water or black tea. That slump hits me so bad. I may doze off just 5 minutes but I'm so lethargic. Vitamins, maybe.
ReplyDeleteWomen friendships...many girlfriends can be fickle... you have to roll with it and bounce back. I don't think there is any perfect relationship.
Love reading your thoughts!
Jane
Daylight savings starts in NZ this weekend. Summer is on her way .....
ReplyDeleteI hate when daylight savings time comes into play too. Just hate seeing the longer days of light leave us.
ReplyDeleteLove all the ideas on how to make the house smell great. I have some great friendships of women that have been in my life for years. I am a big believer that people come into our lives for all sorts of reasons. Some will stay forever and others just will teach us something and move on. I am so blessed to have the girlfriends I have. Have a great rest of the week.
Hugs,
Kris
What a great post chock full of great thoughts! Definitely no is something I've hard to learn, and still do sometimes! Good to know it is a sentence all by itself, lol! I too am blessed with a circle of precious friends, and I appreciate their love for the Lord and love for their families too. Enjoy the beautiful autumn fall weather - we love hikes in the fall too, so refreshing! Have a blessed day :)
ReplyDeleteDon't ever stray... A lesson I learned the hard way :( But, a lesson learned, none the less! Mmmm... Pumpkin bread, I haven't had that in YEARS! Need to try your afternoon slump ideas!
ReplyDeleteThose leaves are a lovely colour!
ReplyDeleteI like the smell of cinnamon too. I love the fall for the same reasons as you. Thanks for stopping by and for leaving a comment.
ReplyDeleteYour walks sound perfect. We don't get any color change here in Southern California. A few trees change in November. I agree with the pumpkin and cider. One blogger posted that protein at lunch helps a lot. Like you answer on being a people pleasure. Nice song choice. Best answer today....daylight savings time!!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know your favorite scent this time of year was Cinnamon! Isn't it the best? I hear ya, Carla.......just leave the time alone. :)

Oh your first photo ... Wisconsin really does show off her Autumn beauty.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
