Jack Frost came for a visit and it is the Hodgepodge!

Jack Frost visited October 20th and winter is knocking on the door. A Winter Weather Advisory is already beeping on the weather app.

It is Wednesday and that means it is time for the Hodgepodge!

Joyce asks the questions.

What's a favorite dish made with one of the flavors listed here?

Cranberry Cake

Cranberry Cake

2 cups sugar
3/4 cup butter
1 teaspoon almond extract
2 cups flour
2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries, thawed

In a mixing bowl, beat eggs with sugar until slightly thickened and light in color, about 5 minutes. Add butter and extract, beat 2 minutes. Stir in flour. Stir in cranberries.

Enjoy

 2. Do you miss traveling? We do day trips. Our state of Wisconsin is beautiful and we have yet to explore all of Wisconsin.  Taking a day trip works perfect.  In this season of almost no travel do you think you've grown anxious or fearful about traveling again? Or has all this staying home not going anywhere made you restless to get out and see the world? We have done take out during day trips. We also have packed a fun picnic lunch. We have never felt anxious during our adventures. Yet, they all have been in our home state and we make it back to sleep in our own bed. What book have you read or what movie have you watched that has inspired you to travel?
I am blessed because I do not live far from my favorite lake.

 3. A time you felt like you were 'flying by the seat of your pants'? Explain.

Wisconsin's weather has turned to winter overnight. I am doing all my usual autumn garden clean up.. by the seat of my pants in that I am working in snow and doing everything a wee different. And in layers upon layers of clothing and layers of gloves because I am digging in the dirt.

4. Do you struggle with road rage or are you more of a 'Sunday driver'? Do you like to be 'in the driver's seat (literally and/or figuratively speaking) ?

I am a  "Sunday Driver"  because I like to look at the sights and will slow down to do so.
My husband does most of the driving.
As far as "in the driver's seat" I am fine with that. I have taken the drivers seat for many a project.

 5. Something you've recently 'put the brakes on'?

I am tapping the brakes at where I head to look for my current news.

One more frosty photo!

  3. You are a bit ahead of us with the winter weather- although it is very cold here-no snow YET...but I know it is coming. UGH. I am NOT a winter person at all.
I copied over your Cranberry Cake recipe. It sounds easy and good. Will probably add some walnuts to it when I make it.
Hope you have a great day- xo Diana

  4. Wow, winter weather already! I am still waiting for peak season for the leaves changing color, we are getting there. Today it is close to 70 degrees. It seems the weather here in NY is getting milder each year.
I chuckled at your answer about the news...how true it is! Have a great rest of the week :)

  6. Hello Carla!! it's been so long since I've had a computer...covid put an end to getting it fixed for a few months...but am up and running for now! Is that picture "hops"? We've had unusually cold weather here already...frost for a few nights, and low 40's during the day. Great photos! Debbie xo

  8. I rarely have to be the driver. Fireman tries to drive as much as possible. He loves his truck, but it is so big, Im not such a fan.

  9. Oh wow snow already! I hope you managed to get all the gardening stuff done before you got frost bite lol. Can't imagine coping with all that. The cranberry cake sounds good.

  10. I am so not ready for winter - I never even got my tulips and crocuses planted! Oh, well. Your cranberry cake recipe looks a lot like my Great-Aunt Exilda's apple cake recipe (just swapped the apples for cranberries), which has been handed down in my family for at least three generations now! We've made it with peaches, apples, you name it - but not cranberries yet! We might just have to add that to our Thanksgiving menu! :)

  12. Wow! Winter did arrived in a hurry. I'm sorry that it caught you with your pants down but I'm sure that you will get it all done. My yard is still not all cleaned and it's the least of my worries.
Your Cranberry cake look delicious. I make cranberry cookies that have become a favorite of my family at Christmas time. I'm sure that you must have many other cranberry recipes in your files.

    I love your frost pictures.
    Stay safe and well.
    Hugs, Julia
