See that little robin. Well, he is the main character of this story. Do you see the net like stuff that his mom made that nest out of? Well, that is the cause of the rescue mission.
This is the second year that a robin family nested on top of our birdhouse. This year the robin got some kind of netting in the makings of the nest. Three of the four babies did fine leaving the nest. One remained over night, which I thought was odd. In the morning I looked closer at the little guy. He had some of the netting stuck around his leg, making it impossible to leave the nest.
And so a rescue mission was put into action. My husband carefully caught the little robin, I had scissors in hand and we carefully snipped the netting off the leg of the little robin.
All the time the little robin was squawking. The parents dive bombing and squawking.
Ah, there is a happy ending. The little fella was so happy to have the netting off his leg. He was no longer held down, he could fly and fly away he did.
The End
Awwww so happy you saw what was happening with this little guy and could rescue him. It is hard when the parents and the little guy cannot understand what you are doing. In the end everyone was happy and healthy. Happy New Week. xoxo Kris

Wonderful wonderful wonderful! You made a difference to that tiny bird. I love it that you and Jeremy took action. Erica and Chad have a wreath on their door and a bird nest in the wreath. There were four tiny babies. Last week Erica went outside to check on them and saw tiny bugs all over the tiny birds, and she was concerned. Her Ring doorbell camera caught this whole thing ... as Erica leaned closer to examine whether the birds were doing okay despite the bugs, she saw a SNAKE entwined in the wreath, threatening the birds. The parents were squawking from the porch railing. Erica got a broomstick and flicked the snake off. She could tell from his appearance that he had already eaten one of the baby birds (also there were only three in the nest). I wonder if he would have eaten all of them, given the time and opportunity. xoxo

ReplyDeleteAWESOME ending!! You two were the saviours of baby robin!
ReplyDeleteand Wisconsin has one more happy healthy bird . .WE need that. Thank you both
ReplyDeletePoor little guy. So glad you were able to help him. I love this story.....
ReplyDeleteI loved your story, Carla, and it was good that you and your husband were there to rescue the little bird. The Robin is one of my favorite birds. He's different than most of the birds, and doesn't scare easily when I take its picture. The Robin mama must have felt safe and comfortable around your home. The Robin is, indeed, a special bird. Your photos tell a wonderful story, Carla.
