The First Hodgepodge of 2022!

Looking at the Christmas tree sitting in the cold greenhouse.

We keep our little tree twinkling during the cold, dark winter nights until the end of February. It is nice to look outside to see that little tree twinkling in the greenhouse.

Hello Friends, it is Wednesday and that means it is time for the Hodgepodge.

Joyce asks the questions.

We answer the questions.

Click here to join the fun!

1. Share one happy moment/memory from the holiday season.

We enjoyed Christmas weekend at my parents farm with all of our family.

Belly Laughs!!!

 2. Let's be reasonable with our expectations going into this new year, k? What is one thing you'd like to accomplish/improve/complete/do in 2022?

I have been talking about the kitchen project for over a year now.. well 2022 it is happening. In fact it starts January 17th! Praying all our cabinets, flooring and other do not have any issues arriving to our front door.

3. Every January 1st (since 1976) Lake Superior University has published a list of words they'd like to see banished from the Queen's English. Words may be banished due to misuse, overuse or just general uselessness (go here to read more about how the words are chosen). Here are the words/phrases they'd like to see banished in 2022-

wait, what?-no worries-at the end of the day-that being said-asking for a friend-circle back-deep dive-a new normal-you're on mute-supply chain

Which of these words/phrases do you use regularly?I do not use any of these phrases regularly. Wait, what .. would be the closest in my vocabulary.  Which of these words would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why?a new normal.. I guess I just do not think it makes sense to say that, what is a new normal?  Is there a word/phrase not on the list you'd like to add? My Bad .. I just do not like that saying.

 4. Best thing you ate in the month of December?

My husband made the best Cheese Potatoes for our Christmas gathering.

 5. January 5th is National Bird Day. Are you a bird lover? Yes! We have several bird feeders around our home. What's your favorite bird to see in the wild? Nuthatch are my favorite birds. Choose a phrase from the list that follows and tell us how it relates to your life currently...eat like a bird, bird's eye view, early bird, bird-brained, free as a bird, a little bird told me, or kill two birds with one stone.

Early Bird.. that is me.

 6. Insert your own random thought here.

A few feathered friends gathered under the bird feeder.

 And a furry friend too.

  1. Happy New Year, Carla! I think that I've used "at the end of the day"...and frankly, I don't think it needs to be retired. There are many, many more phrases and words that I would put on the list instead and I'd love to see many more words of kindness, understanding and patience added to our everyday conversations! Can't wait to see the kitchen come to life!

  2. Good luck with your kitchen reno. I did see the list of banned words and the one I really think should be banned is Circle Back. I do look at the list every year. How fun to have a little tree in your greenhouse. Very charming and unique! Janice

  3. I didn't even know that some of these sayings were a thing! That looks like frost on your greenhouse; it looks like you did a fancy edit to the photo! So pretty!

  4. Is that a fat little cardinal female? If so, she's well fed at your house! :D
I like your answers about language. ESPECIALLY circle back. I'd like to add social distancing to your list!

  5. So happy you had a fun time with family for Christmas. OMG I use a lot of those phrases like Wait! What? No worries. I am guilty. Glad you can enjoy your sweet tree in the greenhouse for most of the harsh winter months. Have a good rest of the week. xoxo

  6. I love your answers. There are new words that came up recently that I really don't like and those like "woke" "cancel culture" and some others. Those words/phrases mentioned doesn't bother me unless they are uses repeatedly in a conversation like "that being said" might be the one I dislike the most.

I like your little sparkly tree. It add ambiance to your little greenhouse.

I'm glad that you had a Christmas weekend at your parent's farm with family. That is precious.

    Happy New Year.
    Hugs, Julia

  8. I agree about "my bad." Seems so offhand. I use "no worries" constantly because my ex introduced it to me from Australia long ago. Love the little bunny and the birdies, and just adore your twinkling tree!

  10. That's a lovely idea to keep the tree and its lights shining outside. My bad never occurred to me when doing my post but yes I'd definitely get rid of that! Happy New Year Carla.

  13. Nothing better than belly laughs!! Good luck with the kitchen project getting done. The current situation cannot be the new normal. We need our lives back and our country back. "My bad" is a good choice. Yum on the cheese potatoes. I do love watching the birds in our yard along with the bunny visits.

  18. Wonderful that you were able to have Christmas with all the family there!
I have to say that "circle back" has become a pet peeve of mine, but frustrates me more when I hear myself saying it!

  19. Your furry friend looks chilly in the snow. We got our first snowfall on Thursday. I'm an early bird too! Cheesy potatoes sound so good!! I love your greenhouse tree. I miss the lights when we take them down. I don't like "circle back", "talking points", " my ride or die"...I'm sure I could go on! Happy New Year!
