Hello Friends, since we had our full nest, our family would go on a first day.. hike, snowshoe or ski.
With our empty nest, Jeremy and I have continued the tradition. January 1st, 2024 we did a first day hike, as you can see we do not have much snow here in Northwest Wisconsin. And this year we had a little pal join us, Ernie enjoyed his first big hike in the wild woods.
Ernie stepped into the Gnome Pub... he was rather surprised to see hooch still in the bottle.
The Gnome Pub was a large tree that had a huge opening at the bottom. Some silly souls decided to add gnomes to the area and a really silly soul brought the hooch. You just never know what you will find in the wild woods.
We hiked the Ice Age Trail located in the New Auburn area.
A marsh area, speckled with snow.
A frozen lake.
Fungi, I just love finding unique fungi.
And once again, not knowing what you might find in the wild woods. This sign says..
BATHROOM.
And here it is.
Have a great week my friends.
♥

What a lovely winter landscape. I live near the mountains, and I love winter.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful walk! Ernie is so cute and seems to be loving his walks. The gnome pub is adorable. I wonder who did that?!
ReplyDeleteHmm as someone who is always looking for the bathroom I might just give that one a miss lol. Glad you had a fun time.
ReplyDeleteLittle Ernie looks like he is having so much fun. What a cutie pie. Ha Ha about the Hooch with the gnome! Happy New start to the new year. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteSo much fun!! I think this is so cool. I would love to spend one Winter up in the Northern States...Little to No snow here in Texas. Love the bathroom, even though it might be a little chilly...
ReplyDeleteI hope you didn't need to 'go'! lol But the hike looks fabulous and I love the cute Gnome and your sweet pup! Looks COLD!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a nice walk in the woods for the new year, Carla. That bathroom sign made me chuckle. I'm glad Ernie got to come along. I bet he had the best time exploring. There is many interesting things to see in the woods. I like those little gnomes too. ; ) You got about as much snow as we did. More to come.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, dear Carla.

It's true, you just never know what you will find in the woods! But the open air bathroom has to be one of the most interesting finds! Ernie is so cute, what a wonderful walking/hiking companion! We too are in the empty nester stage. There are blessings in each stage along the path of parenthood, but it is always good to have our kids around us! Blessings to you dear friend!
ReplyDeleteGood for you getting out and going on that hike. Interesting bathroom and that Gnome pub is cute.
ReplyDeleteErnie is adorable and looks like he had fun on his hike. The pics are just beautiful. Still no snow here...rained all day. We probably will be hit with the white stuff in February our luck. Janice
ReplyDeleteOh dear, hahaha the gnome pub! And Ernie is so cute! Hope you get scads of snow before long! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI love hearing of your adventures. You always find the neatest things. And in the case of the bathroom, the most "unique"!
ReplyDeleteYour dog is cute!
ReplyDeleteHaha! Beautiful park, silly gnomes and love the bathroom...but all I can say is if that's Wisconsin living, I'm definitely not cut out for it!!
ReplyDeleteOh my. Love the bathroom! And the gnome pub with hooch.
ReplyDeleteGreen Mountain Spinnery is in Putney, Vermont.
Who would ever expect to find gnomes, hooch and a open air toilet on the trail.
ReplyDeleteI'm envious of your hike in the fresh air. Earnie is getting his exercise and he looks puzzled at the gnome home. He's so cute.
we had no snow but got around 4 inches overnight but it's been so mild and raining all day and it's still raining.
I just remembered that you had asked me what new seeds I would try this year and I totally forgot about it. I marked it in the catalogue but all I can remember is Chocolate cherry tomatoes.. I grew a plant last year and they were so sweet and tasty. They need stalking but they are definitely worth growing.
Take care, hugs.
Julia
Lovely post Carla ... and Ernie is so cute :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Burrrrrrr, it looks cold even if you didn't have lots of snow. Ernie needs a little coat. Had to laugh, as Ernie is my husband's name. Loved the Gnomes.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a cold bathroom hahaha! Brrrr!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blog
ReplyDeleteSitting here inside with our wood stove keeping us toasty. On the Mississippi Gulf Coast it is more often entertainment than necessity. Today it was both. It appears you and yours are already enjoying a wonderful 2024. LC

ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the virtual walk with you -- not sure if I would be brave enough to use that outdoor toilet though! If I had a nickle for every empty 2-oz shot I have picked up along the roads I would have quite a stash. At least someone hasn't consumed the liquor and tossed the bottle.
This was a fun hike on a cold day!
