Happy Birthday America and it is the Hodgepodge

Hello Everyone... it is Wednesday, time for the Hodgepodge!

Joyce asks the questions.

We answer the questions.

Click here to join the fun!

 1. It's a big week in the US of A as we celebrate Independence Day. Do you have any special plans? How will you mark the day? BBQ? pool-lake-beach time? fireworks? homemade ice cream? If you're not an American you can tell us what's happening in your corner of the world on Thursday.

Independence Day is one of my favorite days to celebrate. I like to make a fruit flag, strawberries, blueberries and dipped white chocolate  pretzels. I also dip pretzel rods with white chocolate and use red, white and blue sprinkles to decorate them.

My husband created an Independence Day playlist, with all our favorite songs playing in the background as we play ladder ball, bean bag and more.

2. What's your favorite 'All-American' dessert?

Chocolate Chip Cookie

 3. Does that patriotic feeling come easily to you, or are you having to work for it more these days? What's something that makes you proud to be a citizen of your country?

We are a patriotic family. We currently have a son serving in the Wisconsin National Guard. He was deployed to Africa 2022-2023. During his deployment he was part of the Sudan Evacuation. This is something that makes me proud to be a citizen of the United States of America... when trouble comes.. we come to help.

4. Your favorite 'patriotic' movie? Favorite patriotic song?

My boys loved to watch The Longest Day ... we watched it so many times together. When ever they were ill from school, we would sit on the couch and watch The Longest Day... we could act some of the scenes.

Favorite song..

 Star Spangled-Banner

Whitney Houston will always be a favorite of mine, she had an amazing performance.

 5. One simple pleasure on your July 'bucket list'?

Reading!!

 6. Insert your own random thought here.

Thus out of small beginnings greater things have been produced by His hand that made all things of nothing, and gives being to all things that are; and, as one small candle may light a thousand, so the light here kindled hath shone on many...

  2. Great hodgepodge. I love the Longest Day movie too. We have a bbq today on the 3rd here in our condo complex and then fireworks are shot off at our clubhouse on the golf course. Some of the best I have ever seen. Then on the 4th we go back to where we use to live with friends to have a bbq and watch the towns fireworks. Lots of fun for the next few day. Happy 4th. Hugs. 3. Your plans for the 4th sounds like a great day filled with happiness and love. I love celebrating our freedom! Please thank you son for his service to our Country, for me! I am so very thankful for all of the men and women that serve, in order for us to celebrate freedom. I hope you will take a picture of your fruit flag and share with us. We have outdoor plans for the 4th...in spite of the 100 degree temps. I am happy to be able to celebrate this day. Happy day before the 4th.

  4. I’d like to know the songs on the Independence Day playlist. That must be good. I like the movie. The Longest Day as well. My dad, a Korean War veteran enjoyed his war movies and I was always right there beside him watching.
Your dessert sounds amazing. Something I probably wouldn’t make now but I used to. I’d sure like to eat it though!
I’m sure your 4th will be filled with patriotic fun!

  5. I like the idea of a fruit flag. I find it hard to see war movies. I could only see Private Ryan once because it made me so sad. Sam with Titanic. I do love to hear patriotic music and have a radio station that plays it. It makes me think of my dad. Happy 4th!

  7. I haven't watched The Longest Day in a while. I think we'll do that soon. We were in Normandy a few years ago and what a trip! So moving to see the beaches and all those little towns that were part of that day. Happy 4th to you and your family!

  9. HAPPY 4th! It is so hot here, I can't even consider BBQ or fireworks. It's too dry. So we're having tacos & watermelon. :)

  16. Carla, your fruit flag sounds delightful - dipped white chocolate pretzels, YUM! There's a lot of great actors in that movie. My dad used to love watching John Wayne movies. I've never heard Whitney sing Star Spangled Banner before. I will have to listen to that. She has an amazing voice. And that quote is special. Thanks for sharing that, Carla. Your Hodgepodge posts are always my favorite of any blogger.....ssshhh. ; )

  17. I'm going to have to listen to Whitney's version again! I want a fruit flag now. I missed all of the 4th of July festivities because I was on a plane but it was worth it. I do miss it though. It feels like I didn't have a 4th of July this year at all.
