Trick or Treat
We saw this house on our travels through Central Wisconsin.. I took a quick drive by photo. I would have loved to have seen it at night. And a tour inside.
Happy Halloween!

Hello Friends, we started a big project last week. We built a raised bed garden. I am so excited and happy about this, I cannot wait for spring. The photos of the project will be dirt, you will have to use your imagination to see vegetables and flowers.
My husband did most of the work. I helped when he asked me to move something or fetch something. I helped haul some dirt.
In the meantime I collected seeds and started to put our other gardens to bed.
French Marigold seed pods. Ready for harvest.
The dirt pile! We had dirt hauled in and dumped in our driveway. We used wheelbarrows to move the dirt to the backyard to fill the raised beds.
I helped fill the wheelbarrows. I could not drive them around to the backyard, that was all Jeremy.
I put away our birdbaths, planted spring bulbs and cleaned our other gardens.
Jeremy also built me a tower or obelisk for my climbing rose. And another for a spring planting project I will be doing.
We put a layer of cardboard down, home compost and our brought in dirt into our raised beds. We are still thinking about what we will do for the paths along the raised beds. Pea gravel, straw, wood mulch? That will be a project for 2025.
And I harvested a few strawberries to add to our fresh salads.
I am NUTS for this fella! |
Hello Friends, it is Wednesday, it is time for the Hodgepodge.
Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.
1. How did you meet your significant other? If you don't have a significant other, tell us how you met your best friend.
I met my husband working at the Supper Club his parents owned and operated. I was a dishwasher/waitress. He was a bartender/waiter/cook.
2. It's Department Store Day (October 16)...do you still shop in
department stores? If not do you miss that kind of shopping experience?
Do you have a favorite department store? Any fun memories of department
store shopping when you were a child?
I use to shop at Department Stores. I do not do it much now. I did enjoy it.
One of my fun memories of shopping at a department store, was with my sister and aunt Sharon. We pretended to have foreign accents as we tried on clothing. We laughed and laughed and laughed.
3. Something you're currently nuts about?
Going for walks with Ernie. I love this time of year with the colored leaves, crisp air and bright blue sky. I am also nuts about pumpkins. We live close to a pumpkin farm stand. All shapes, sizes and colors of pumpkins, gourds and squash. We purchased pumpkins for our pumpkin carving party, gourds for decorating and squash for eating. I already made squash soup, yum!
4. What's your favorite nut and is there a favorite recipe where this nut is used?
My favorite nut is a cashew. I do not have a favorite recipe using cashews.
5. On Wednesday we officially reach the '70 days until Christmas' mark. Have you purchased any gifts? If you don't celebrate Christmas then how about Hanukkah presents?
I have not purchased any gifts.
I do have a list of what I plan to purchase or make for family and friends for Christmas.

A little bit of my autumn decorating...
Happy Autumn Days!!
Hello Friends,
We had our annual Pumpkin Carving Party on Sunday.
The weather was cold and windy, so we had our party in the comfort of our home. Not only was Sunday our Pumpkin Carving Party it was the official day of 'turning on the heat'. We mark the calendar of the official day we turn on the heat and turn off the heat. Ha! Some may think we are strange. Ha!
After a meal of chili, cornbread and apple crisp for dessert we got busy carving.

Creativity, that is what I love about each and every pumpkin carving party we host.
If you do it with heart that is art.

Happy Halloween to You!
Hello Friends, Autumn has arrived here in Northwest Wisconsin, with our first frosty nights, cold mornings and warm afternoons. The warm sunlight dancing in the trees as the leaves are just turning color.
It is time for the Hodgepodge.
Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.
1. Thursday is National Walk To A Park Day. I know these celebratory days are mostly made up, but some are fun to think about. Do you live close enough to a park to walk to one on Thursday? I do, but we will not walk that direction on Thursday. Will you? The most famous park in the world is Central Park located in NYC. Have you ever been to Central Park? No What did you think? If you haven't been is this a place you'd like to see? At this time I do not have an interest in visiting NYC. We visited back in 2007, but did not visit Central Park during that visit to NYC.
2. Something you've done recently that turned out to be a 'walk in the park'?
We made up a batch of our own sauerkraut. It ended up being a 'walk in the park'.
3. Can you parallel park? I have done it, but close your eyes watching me do so. Do you have to do this often where you live? Thank goodness, no!
4. The colors of fall...red, brown, russet, golden bronze, golden yellow, purplish red, light tan, crimson, orange red, and scarlet. Are these colors you like to wear? I do. Is this your season in terms of color? No. What about your home? Would we see these tones in your home decorating? Yes, we have several shades of brown, tan and russet in our home. We have pops of red here and there as well.
Some say our pets match our rug.
5. What part of history do you find most interesting? Elaborate.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I also enjoy reading WWII historical fiction. Lilac Girls was a favorite of mine.
Hello Friends, back in October of 2023, we adopted an 8 month old rescue dog named Ernie. I have been sharing his story along with the calendar page from each month. My sister gifted us the calendar, it is so cute, I wanted to share each page and give you an Ernie update for the year.
September found us going on two camping trips. Ernie loves all the hiking we do.
He is always excited to see us grab his orange leash, time for a walk and explore.
He has come a long way from that day in October that we brought him home. He truly is a sweetheart and makes us laugh everyday. And it is true, I sometimes wonder who rescued who, he was just what I needed after a troubling time.
Memories
10-4
Do any of you remember saying 10-4 or do you still say 10-4 today?
My sister, me and our friends would play all kinds of games as kids. I remember riding bikes pretending we were semi truck drivers on CB's .. 10-4 .. Roger That!
We played other games that required us to say 10-4.
Today I am saying 10-4 to all my readers.. 10-4 “10-4” is a radio signal that means "you have got it." or "OK".
Let us all pray for our friends, family and strangers who have lost everything during the past week.
10-4
