On the Road Friday ~ Minnesota Ballet

Hello, Welcome to On the Road Friday.
We are going to take a trip to Duluth, Minnesota to the Symphony Hall and enjoy Sleeping Beauty ~ The Ballet Story.
The performance was presented by the Minnesota Ballet Company.

 The DECC

Located on the shores of Lake Superior in the resort city of Duluth, the DECC offers world-class convention, sport, special event and entertainment facilities. We’re just steps away from quaint Canal Park and Downtown, offering shops, restaurants and hotels. And did we mention the panoramic views of the Aerial Lift Bridge and the Harbor?

If you’re looking for entertainment in Northeastern Minnesota, look no further. The DECC is home to the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, Broadway series, concerts, Home and Sports Shows, Minnesota Ballet, UMD Men’s and Women’s Bulldog Hockey and the William A. Irvin ore boat museum.

Nice and warm inside the Symphony Hall.

 Comfortable seating for the ballet.

This was a first for our boys. I enjoy ballet, I was not sure if they would or not. I wanted to treat them to a ballet. Sleeping Beauty is a story they already know, so I thought it would be a good ballet for them to experience.
To my delight, they loved it.

We are not allowed to take photos during the performance...so I leave you with

Once Upon A Time

Do you enjoy ballet? Do you have a favorite?

On the Road Friday ~ Enger Park, Duluth, Minnesota

We are on the road today. We are off to Enger Park, Duluth, Minnesota.
We visited Palm Sunday. It was a cool, damp drizzly day. Our stop to the park was an explore for a future trip. The park has amazing gardens. I am so excited to visit in the summer months.

Here we go. Grab your umbrella and off we go.

 Enger Tower

The 80 foot high Enger Park Tower was dedicated in 1939 by Crown Prince Olav and Crown Princess Martha of Norway. The tower provides perhaps the best scenic overview of the city.

It was amazing to look out over the city of Duluth from up on top of the tower.

From the top of the 5 story Enger Park Tower you have a bird's eye view of Duluth and its Harbor. One of the reasons why most Duluth visitors include climbing the tower in their things to see and do in Duluth.

 Beauty in every direction.

Our boys could have played here all day. Kings, knights, battles, it was all pouring out. I love how they imagine.
Because it was not the best of days, we had the tower to ourselves.

The TePaske Castle

We plan to do some more exploring in Duluth this summer. I am very excited to see the gardens.

Enger Tower and its Gardens are a favorite picnic spot for Duluthians and a "must see" stop for Duluth Visitors

Thank you for coming along today.

On the Road Friday to Bentleyville USA

Hello, it is cold here in Wisconsin!
Our trip today will be a little bit cold too.
So grab a cup of hot chocolate and snuggle in to your favorite sweater.
We are heading to Bentleyville, USA
Duluth, MN.

2012 was a special birthday for me, because my birthday is 12/12! I had the best day! My hubby and two boys spent the entire day with me. We went cross country skiing at Pattison State Park, went out to eat and then went to Bentleyville USA, Tour of Lights.

We will not make it to Bentleyville this year. If you have the opportunity, you will be in for a real treat. And Bentleyville will be celebrating 10 years! WOW!

Hey, no worries if you can not make it, we are on the road right now.
Get ready.
Get set.
Here we go!

Lights!
And music. As you walk along Christmas music is playing. You get free hot chocolate and cookies.

The amazing tree! Guess what? The tree is set to the music. So it flashes to the beat.

 Santa!

 Duluth at night! Beautiful!

I think it is so amazing how the city of Duluth puts this on each year.
They have a skating rink and warming house.
They also have indoor bathrooms and a gift shop.

This is so fun to walk into.

Several folks were taking photos here.
It is so pretty.

Atticus is a big fan of Thomas. So he really liked this one.

"This is so Cool!" yells Atticus.

See you next time Bentleyville USA!
If you do get a chance to go, let me know how you like it.

Do you have a city close to you that puts on a unique light display?
Do you drive around town to look at Christmas lights?

Thank you for coming along with me to Bentleyville!

On the Road Friday

Duluth, Minnesota

We love to visit Duluth. We do not have to spend too much money, because we are happy packing a picnic lunch and watching the freighters.

The following photos were taken in 2010. Jeremy and I did a day trip to Duluth in June. We hiked along the lake and split a fancy apple from the Chocolate Factory - check out the Duluth Chocolate Factory

The local Lake Superior Marine Museum has a boat watch pamphlet printed out. You can pick one up and it gives you estimated times that freighters will be coming into or leaving port.

One of my many dreams is to ride along on a freighter on the Great Lakes. I am fascinated about what it is like to be a sailor. What do you eat? What are the sunrises and sunsets like? What are the storms like?

For today, I will just dream and wonder what it is like to ride on one of these amazing freighters.

For more information about watching the freighters at the Duluth port check out the following site - Duluth - Lake Superior Info

Bentleyville Tour of Lights

Bentleyville Tour of Lights...Duluth's Bayfront Festival Park
Jeremy and I got to tour Bentleyville after our night out in Duluth, MN. It is amazing! All the work that is put into this simply amazes me! The spectacular display features a warming place, treats and 3 million lights!

Time to play golf.
Dinosaur Land was so creative!
Stop at the Post Office to mail your Christmas cards.
Yum, Polar Popcorn!
A big freighter coming in to port.
Santa taking time for some fishing.
That was fun! We should do this next year!
Merry Christmas!!

Duluth in December

We arrived in Duluth a little early for our show. It was warm for December in Duluth. We took a walk down to Canal Park. Oh My, look at the Gulls...this was on Sunday, so maybe this is Gull Church?
Then we noticed all of these folks. One of the Gulls out and about must be famous or visiting from out of town!
But which one? Jeremy and I think the famous ones are gray?
More action!
The folks bird watching would toss bread in the water. Look at the Gulls dive for it.
And now it is time for our show.
