Christmas Cactus

Christmas Cactus, also known as Orchid Cactus
Facts: the flowers are available in a wide variety of colors including red, purple, orange, pink, fuchsia and cream.
The Christmas Cactus is a tropical plant, it requires water. A good way to know that you have watered enough, water and once the top soil is dry, water again. However, in the fall and winter months, do not water as often, to allow to bloom. They also need humidity, do not put in front of a door that opens and closes. Do not place by heating and cooling ducts.
It is easy to start a Christmas Cactus, just place a cutting into soil. I placed a cutting in soil this summer and sat the plant outside. In the Wisconsin humidity it took off and grew into a beautiful plant. I brought  it in once the fear of frost began. It is growing very quick and is a beautiful Christmas Cactus.
The other fun fact is that the Christmas Cactus is a "Grandma's Plant" it is passed down from generation to generation. I'll bet some of us reading this may have a Christmas Cactus passed down from Mary Lepke...I wonder if that plant was passed down from Martha Lepke...I wonder who passed it down to Martha. The Christmas Cactus is a favorite house plant, and is easy to care for.
If you would like a cutting ... let me know...I have three Christmas Cactus' awaiting to pass down their generation.
