Decorating with Nature

I wanted to add a little nature to our winter decorating. I headed out the door to our backyard and I picked some of our Hemlock boughs. I made up some Hemlock bouquets.

My boys loved watching the pine cones or seed cone POP open. If you look at the above photo you can see a small pine cone. Isn't that neat how the warmth of the house made them POP open. We get excited about little things around here. ;-)

I did not put my Hemlock boughs in water. I just set them in jars or other vases.  After a month they lost a few needles, but otherwise look just like the day I picked them.

Do you decorate with nature?

  1. Very clever. I like how you brought in nature. It is to cold to appreciate it outdoors.

  4. Love this! I have wanted to do something like this, but any of our pine tree's that I could get some cones and greenery from are blocked by thirty foot snow drifts! Ok, maybe only 5 foot drifts, but to much for me to get to them!

  5. Oh, I hadn't realized that pine cones could or would or might pop open. How cool.

I do love to bring a bit of the outdoors indoors...especially during this brutal winter.

  7. Haha. I get excited about little things like that too! I think that's because our winters are way too long. :-) But I've not had a little pinecone pop open. How fun! Have you made hemlock tea? (probably not a good idea) lol

  8. I love your decorating with nature! It is beautiful and cheery. (yes, and some excitement) I used to bring in things to enjoy and thanks for reminding me to do it again. So...you remember your Valelntine boxes too...how fun. I hope our grade school teachers got a glimpse of how much we enjoyed the making of those boxes and the anticipation of getting Valentine cards in them. (I didn't know pine cones could pop open, I wonder if our type would) Happy, happy Valentine's Day Carla!

  9. I'd like to see your football player and things you've made =). One of the teachers at school was having the kids decorate kleenex boxes for Valentine's boxes I think. It makes sense, the opening is already on the top. I did decorate a shoebox myself today. In vintage pinks...and when I was all done, I thought...what? I should have used lots of reds and hearts galore...haha.
