Have you ever said "Sleep Tight!" to your kids?
Do you know where that saying came from?
In colonial times mattresses were laid over ropes stretched between the sides of the bed frame. When the ropes sagged, they had to be tightened with a wind-up wrench.
So people really meant it when they talked about sleeping tight.
Have a great Saturday!
Aww this is so precious! I do say that sometimes!

This is the best picture! Years ago while visiting Colonial Williamsburg, I learned where that phrase came from when they showed us the tool to tighten the ropes.

I know everyone is worried about spam, but I have to say [in the nicest way possible] that I just can't see those numbers and letters that bloggers use. And I'm so sorry that I am having difficulties commenting on your blog because of them.
How cute! Never knew that!
ReplyDeleteHa! Carla, that is such a great picture!!! Love it. :-)
