Fishin' In The Dark ~ It is the Hodgepodge

Ice Fishing with little friends in an ice shack, nice and warm.

It is Wednesday!
It is time for the Hodgepodge.
Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.

 1. Have you ever been fishing? Did you catch a fish? If so did you keep it or throw it back? If you haven't been fishing is that something you'd like to try?

Yes, I grew up fishing. I love to river fish. Each day while growing up, I would go down to the river and fish. I would catch fish and bring them home for my dad to clean.
In Wisconsin we also go Ice Fishing. Many fun days in the ice shack fishing, playing cards and having a snack.

Fish out of water, big fish in a small pond, living in a fishbowl, packed in like sardines, this is a fine kettle of fish, plenty of fish in the sea, fish or cut bait...which fishy phrase most recently applies to some area of your life?

"this is a fine kettle of fish"
Saturday our vehicle got stuck in the mud.

Happy Fishing
 2. What's something you're always fishing for in your purse, wallet, desk, or kitchen junk drawer?

I am always fishing for my lip gloss in my purse.

3. Your favorite fish tale or movie?

I am not sure if this is my favorite, but it is one that we recently watched.

In The Heart of The Sea

4. Are you sunrise, daylight, twilight or night? Explain why you chose your answer.

I am sunrise.
I enjoy morning.
I am one of those people who wakes up ready for the day.
I start talking and laughing and planning.
When we first got married, this drove my husband crazy.
After 20 years, he is somewhat use to it.

 5. What's the oldest piece of clothing you own and still wear?

My jean jacket.

 6. We've got one more month of (officially) winter here in the Northern hemisphere. Are you feeling the need for a getaway? What's been the best and worst part of your winter so far?

The weather in Wisconsin has been absolutely crazy this winter of 2016/2017.
I am not a fan of negative temperatures.
I do enjoy a nice 20 degree day with snow falling and me out cross country skiing.

Northern Wisconsin hit a high of 55 degrees Saturday, February 18th. Our family participated in a ski event. We sloshed across the course.

Sam caught the big one!

7.  The Wednesday Hodgepodge lands on National Margarita Day...will you be celebrating? Frozen or on the rocks? Are you a Jimmy Buffet fan? If so, what's your favorite JB tune?

No, I will not be celebrating.
I am not a big fan of Jimmy Buffet.
I only know a couple of his songs.

 8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Anyone missing these two?

I miss
Downton Abbey

  1. A great photo of you and the little girls. I see happy smiles. I used to fish brook trouts when i was young and I cleaned them, rolled them in flour and fried them in butter. So yummy.
I caught a big cat fish while fishing with my brother and sister in law on White Lake in Ontario. That fish was super strong but I reeled it in while screaming, lol...

I'm remembering your neighbour JoAnn in my prayers.
    Hugs,
    Julia

  2. I am sunrise, too. But if anyone talks to me, that's the end of my happy time. I like the quiet of the early morning and starting the day slow. When people interrupt that they quickly realize their mistake. LOL If others are up when I get up, I take the dog out for a nature walk right away. He appreciates quiet too. Or just walking. Ha! LOVE your pictures!

  3. I have just read Cranberry Morning's version of this. Your version makes me smile in a similar way - wonderful shots, lots of laughter. I've never heard of Jimmy Buffet and had no idea there was such a thing as National Margarita Day (why would there be?) - but I will enjoy a pint or two of bitter at the local this evening :-)

  4. We miss Downton Abby too. But now PBS has Victoria and Poldark, both excellent! I have not heard of this movie, but the trailer looks great! That whale upturns the boat like it is a teacup. And the lighting is beautiful.I did not know there are shacks for ice fishing, so I learned something here today. I'm not a big fan of Jimmy Buffet either.

  6. That first pic is so darling. What fun! I do miss DA, but have enjoyed Poldark, Victoria and looking forward to Call the Midwife. I also watched all of The Crown, which I thought was good. I am a sunrise person for the same reasons.

  7. Ice fishing looks fun! I love the smiley pic of you, so beautiful! I've wanted to watch Downtown Abby but never did. I should start by renting season 1 on DVD. Have a great week :)

  8. I miss DA too!! I love that first pic of you!! So cute. I think I've only fished once or twice in my life. I like the idea of sitting in the ice fishing shack with a warm drink though! My daughters both loved Moby Dick so I feel I should give that a read.

  9. I love fishing...always have and I've been doing it a long, long time. I prefer to do it from a boat, but have caught my biggest fish from the shore. Never been ice fishing, have always wanted to try! I live in a fishbowl. The cottages in my neighborhood are tight. Everyone can see you coming and going, not my favorite, but after more than 20 years, I'm used to it! ;) I am a night person and I haven't seen In The Heart Of The Sea, but I read the book and it was fascinating. Enjoy that weather!!

  10. No fun getting stuck in the mud. Great movie choice, I really enjoyed that movie too. Yes I miss them and I read something about a prequel being written.

  11. Oh, you look so pretty, and sweet! I cannot imagine being in an ice shack on the river. All the fishing I've ever done was in a pond. My Mother used to say, let go catch a mess of fish to cook for supper.

  12. Oh, I miss Downton Abbey, too! Hasn't the weather been crazy?! Madison broke a record for the warmest temperature in February, EVER, at 68F. It was so nice, a friend and I had sandwiches and tea out on the patio, and we had a nice chat. Oh, I forgot to have a margarita, though. ;-)

  13. Carla! I'm completely at sunrise person too, waking up early and rambling on to my husband almost every morning without fail, too funny! We have a lot in common my friend! Oh, and I am not not a Jimmy Buffett fan! So like you, I will be celebrating the weekend getting closer but not his special day ;)! I hope Wisconsin cools down soon - we're supposed to hit a record high of 60° today and that makes me pretty sad, it's not normal!

  14. Love your pictures.
I do sometimes go with Eddie when he is fishing ... I'm a 'dab hand' on the landing net!

    All the best Jan

  15. What fun photos, Carla! And that looks more like an ice mansion than an ice shack! LOL I laughed at Jeremy taking 20 years to get used to your bright, sunny attitude in the early morning. :-D xoxo

  16. A fun post, Carla. I love the snapshots. John and I are complete opposites also - I love the mornings! Such a delightful giveaway on your most recent post but I won't participate (due to tremors) but your generosity will make someone very happy. God bless you. I appreciate your friendship.

  17. That's a really cute pic of you with the girls! This looks like such fun. I always loved to fish when I lived in NC. That's the first conversation my 'to be' husband and I had...when we met. We talked about fishing! haha! Hugs!

  18. Glad to know that I am not the only one who isn't a Jimmy Buffet fan!
Not that I dislike him, I have just never gotten into his music.
