During one of our walks, I just about stepped on this green thing. I looked closer to see that this little green thing was a baby snapping turtle.
He was on his way to a little pond across the road.
We decided to help him on his way. Jeremy picked him up very careful and moved him to the side of the road. NOTE .. we would never be able to pick up a grown snapping turtle. This little guy did not try any shenanigans and seemed genuinely happy we moved him along.
I'd like to say how cute, but he's not lol
ReplyDeleteHe is adorable! I have never seen a green turtle before. I am impressed by your turtle identification skills!
ReplyDeleteHe is darling! I recently read that while you can move a turtle to the side of the road he is heading to, to never move him back in the opposite direction or take him with you. Evidently it disorients him and he spends a year wandering in circles, very stressed. My husband is one who always stops to move a turtle out of the road but like you he moves them to the direction they were heading.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, he is the sweetest!! We have some pretty large snappers around here, but I've never seen a teeny guy! Lucky you.
ReplyDeleteFascinating creatures. We encountered a snapping turtle (a large adult) in the U.P. of Michigan many years ago. He was in the middle of the road. Believe it or not, my husband was able to coax him to the side with automotive rubber hose, since it was too dangerous to pick him up!
ReplyDeleteHooray for lil babies any time of year
ReplyDeleteWhat a teeny tiny itsy bitsy cuttie!
ReplyDeleteThat would have been horrible if you would have stepped on him, you would have felt so bad about that.
Glad you were able to help him along~
I could see where someone might step on him. He is blending in with natures so easily. I am sure he was very appreciative that you helped him on his journey to the pond. Happy Friday sweet friend. Have a wonderful weekend.

Awww! Much cuter than the big guy we stopped for earlier this summer. Thankfully we had a 5-gallon bucket in the back of the van to "guide" him across the road! ;)
ReplyDeleteAwe, what a cutie. He even looks like he's got an attitude, lol... He's so tiny.
ReplyDeleteWe stopped and picked a full grown painted turtle that was on a super busy highway and brought it to the wild animal provincial park and since it was not a snapping turtle, they put it in the pond with the ducks. We were told that snapping turtles would kill the ducks.
We got an all day pass for a full car of kids for bringing them the painted turtle. The kids were happy.
Hugs, Julia
Oh my goodness! How cute is that! Aren't you glad we can take pics of everything now! Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love him so much. I had a turtle years. His name was Elmer. He was not a snapping turtle but we got him at my dads cottage in Illinois and Adam had him in his pocket going through security at the airport. Then we had a jar for him to go into in our carry on bag. He lived for a very long time and then we eventually let him go into a river near the gun range that Mark goes to.
ReplyDeleteHave a relaxing Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were able to help him! I see to many that weren't fortunate enough to have a helping hand, and it always makes me so sad. This guy though, makes me smile!
ReplyDeleteThat was a long and dangerous travel for him. He was lucky to meet you.
ReplyDeleteYou captured his eyes from your photo. lol Funny. I don't believe we have any snapping turtles here in Northern California.
ReplyDeleteHe does look cute...
ReplyDeletePleased you could help him on his way.
All the best Jan
