Red

I shared last week that I was inspired by some other blog friends who do posts on colors.
They will post several photos featuring a color.
I decided to do white for January and red for February.

A few years ago, I bought an old red bicycle with the words Free Spirit written across its side - which is exactly what I felt like when I rode it down the street in a tie-dyed dress.

Dance ~ Love ~ Sing ~ Live

My husband always wanted to learn how to play guitar.
Each new year would roll around, and those 12 months seem to go faster and faster. And he once again would be saying, "This is the year, I am going to learn how to play guitar."

He had a special birthday in January.
I decided I needed to take the guitar playing dream to the next level.
We have some very talented young friends. I asked if they ever considered giving lessons. My husband is on his third lesson and he strums a little tune for me every night.

He will be purchasing his own guitar with in the next few weeks. He has one picked out.
He enjoys going to his lesson each week. He thinks his instructor is amazing.
And so do I.
Jeremy feels comfortable playing and is encouraged each time he returns from a lesson.

Harvest Moon by Neil Young is one of my favorites.

He knows I am very excited for him to play this for me.
He will say"oh I don't know if  I  will ever be that good."  I tell him, "I just enjoy whatever you play, and I am happy you are chasing that dream."

White

Hello Friends

Mr. Snowman made by my dear friend, Charles.

I have been inspired by some blog friends that are doing color posts. They choose a color and post photos highlighting that color.
I am going to post for January today. I have decided to choose the color white for January.

"I have always been delighted at the prospect of a new day, a fresh try, one more start, with perhaps a bit of magic waiting somewhere behind the morning."
J.B. Priestley

Many of the spring wildflowers are white here in Northwest Wisconsin.

 Spring in the woodlands.

One of my favorite spring wildflowers.

Drying chamomile for homemade tea blends.

A touch of Jack Frost on the trees.

A white truck with some big tires.

 Yum!

A white church with a red door. I wonder, should red be my color for February?

Happy Weekend my Friends

Book Across the Bay 2020

Book Across the Bay
2020

We did it again.

Book Across the Bay is the upper Midwest’s most unique point to point winter event, open to skiers and snowshoers of all ages and ability levels. The 10-kilometer course, which is groomed for both classic-style and skate skiing, starts in Ashland and ends in Washburn, and follows a route not on land, but over the frozen surface of Lake Superior, the world’s largest lake. The event is held at night, and the course is lit by the stars above and up to 1,000 candles in ice luminaries that line the entire route.

We went to an amazing concert on the Bay.
The below video and link shares all about the band.

I am amazed by the harmonica. This band has one top harmonica player.

Saturday morning we went on an explore to Superior Falls.

Saturday night we crossed the bay by candle light.

Along the way we spotted a fire breathing dragon.

Sunday morning we did a little more exploring.

We hiked to Lost Creek Falls.

Loved these tracks in the snow. Just looking at them makes me think there is a story here. Are these tracks of a little mouse? Did he travel to town going the one way and to his friends the other?
Maybe I will make a story up about these cute tracks.

That is me in the pink.
It was a special Valentine's Weekend.

Floral Design and Ready, Set, Grow ... 2020 Winter Garden Seminar

On February 1st you would have found me at the Eau Claire Area Master Gardener
Ready, Set, Grow ... 2020 Winter Garden Seminar

 It was another fun seminar.
We started the morning with a keynote speaker, Bonnie Blodgett.
She lost her sense of smell. It was interesting to hear how she began to garden different after this.

After the keynote speaker we breakout into sessions that we have decided on. This seminar I went to the Floral Design, The Local Food Movement in your Community and Growing Hemp in Wisconsin breakout sessions.  All of the sessions where well done. My favorite was the Floral Design.

Shaun Christensen ~ Christensen Florist and Greenhouses
Shaun was a fantastic, down to earth teacher.
Christensen Florist started in 1924, the stories that Shaun shared as he helped his grandparents during his childhood years made the session extra special.

I learned several tips and tricks.
The number one tip, cut your stems with a florist knife.

Just a few of the amazing designs.

My lucky number is 12. With a 12/12 birthday, how can it not be my lucky number. Ha Ha!
I did win a door prize at the seminar. I was number 12!
A grow bag full of goodies. A Fiskar pruner, a herb book, garden gloves, starting pots made of cow compost and seeds.
I have not used a grow bag before. My garden friend Carol has used them for several years and likes using them. It will be fun for me to try.
With all this talking about getting out in the garden I have a wee bit of Spring Fever!
 ♥

On the Road Friday ~ Mandarin .. Rice Lake, Wisconsin

 The Year of the Rat

To celebrate the Chinese New Year, my workplace went on an adventure to Mandarin a Chinese restaurant located in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.
The owners of the restaurant explained the Chinese New Year to us. Shared how it is celebrated and gave us a gift inside a red envelope.

It was a fun adventure. Many had not tried Chinese food and they had the opportunity to eat using chopsticks. The owners were fantastic. I would recommend stopping in to eat here if you are traveling to Rice Lake, Wisconsin.

Thank you for coming along with me today, On the Road Friday!

Keeping Fish .. part 3

 Keeping Fish .. part 3

The photos tell all. For some reason, all of a sudden, the fish have become Penelope's fascination.

This past summer I created a whiskey barrel garden/water feature in our garden. I purchased 10 $0.14 cent fish. I have three of the gang of 10 from this summer in a fish bowl waiting for Spring when they can go back out and live in the big pond aka the whiskey barrel.

Can these three fish make it until Spring?

To be continued..
