Snow Day craft

The Weather Channel has Northwest Wisconsin getting hit by a big snow storm. We all say "Bring on the S.N.O.W!"

I know some of you are not so excited.

If it is because of shoveling...I have two young men to help me out, so I am lucky that way. :)

If you are cozy inside and would like to try a fun new project using canvas, a black sharpie marker and water color pencils. 

Check out our snowmen on canvas.

Atticus created a Frosty the Snowman, with the black magic hat.

 I did an on the angle snowman. The boys thought this was cool.

   Sam created a stocking cap snowman.

This was a fun project. The boys love to work on canvas. We hit a bargain at Michaels not long ago. So it was an inexpensive craft as well.

Lego Party - post by Sam and Atticus

Dad took this photo of our Lego's. He called it a party! Lego has a new collection of mini figures. We try to collect all 16 that are in a series. They come in a small bag, so you do not know what your are getting. It is fun. So far we have not had any duplicates.

We just got an ice skater and a skate boarder.

We have a fisher man, baseball player, rock star, surfer girl, gorilla, tennis player, and many more.

We will be leaving for a camp trip on Friday. One of our favorite things to do at night is read in our sleeping bags. Mom always packs Calvin and Hobbes, we laugh and laugh! Have a good week!

Thursday Post, by Sam and Atticus

We love rocks! We have lots of rocks, my Mom got creative on how to display our rocks. She puts them in her plants and decorates with some of the really cool ones. The fun thing is my Mom loves rocks too. We have some friends that love rocks, and they invited us to become a part of the Northwest Wisconsin Gem and Mineral Society. We meet the 3rd Tuesday of the month. We went to our first meeting in May. It was fun. We got to watch a video about Fire Agates! This coming month we will study Emeralds, you can mine them in North Carolina. We hope to stop at a few Sapphire mines on our trip to Montana.

The top photo shows you what the rock looks like. Slice it open to find a surprise. God has so many surprises for us!

Some more of our fun rocks. My dad thinks the one agate close to where we are typing looks like Lake Superior. The purple one is Amethyst.

Some of the best stories we have of bringing rocks home are... Sam found a cool rock in California. Mom packed it up in her clothes to fly home with us. Sam and Atticus found a cool rock on the shores of Lake Superior, it was big and flat, Dad said it was sandstone. Dad carried it to the back of the truck and made sure it came home safe. My mom has that rock in her outside garden.


The reason for a Thursday Post on a Sunday...we had computer trouble...we got our post up Thursday, but not published.

Last Day of School - Post by Sam and Atticus

School is Out!

School is out. HOT DOG! The start of sleeping an hour later and playing right after breakfast! Summer camp trips, going to 4-H camp and Bible camp. We are really excited for our trip out west to see Bobby Jean, in Montana! A message to Bobby Jean : have your rocks out, we are ready to identify your rock collection! The other fun thing about going to Montana, no sales tax! Wal Mart here we come. Oh, you may not know that story. We will fill you in, we visited Bobby Jean in 2009 and ended up having two bad tires, so we spent some time at the Great Falls, MT Wal Mart...it was fun and we got some awesome Star Wars guys.

When we got to our campsite, we noticed the remains of a fort. We decided to work on it. When we visited Lake Superior we found some boards and drift wood washed a shore. We brought them back to add to our fort.

It made a good shelter. We had a lot of fun making it. We left the fort for the next campers. It will be fun to see if it is still at site # 3 next time we camp.

Who is eating in Mom's Garden Center?

Hi, I am going to tell you a little story. My name is Atticus, I am eight years old. A critter was messing up my Mom's garden center. Her garden center is where she keeps her garden stuff, her bird nest collection and other fun nature things she likes. Well, something was digging up in some of the cracks in the cement. Also eating some of Mom's seeds. I decided to try and catch it...and sure enough I did.

Here is the Critter...I named him Chippy.

I gave him some bread.

He is telling me, he wants out!

I let Chippy out, after a good talking. I told him he best leave my Mom alone. I let him out and he walked slowly out of the trap, looked at me, put up his nose and trotted off. I have not seen him since. He may have moved away...knowing he best not mess with an eight year old boy, who is protecting his Mom's seeds!

What did you like the best?

We glued the puzzled and gave it to our Aunt Clover for her Birthday. She loved it!

How long did it take?

We started in February and we had it finished in the middle of March!

 

Lego City - Police

We got this Lego set for our Birthdays. Grandma and Grandpa got us this set to share. It is called Lego City Police Station. The bad guys steal money from the ATM machine and the good guys have to catch them. It is so cool because the station has windows, a coffee maker in the breakroom and a mug shot room. It has a desk and computer too. It has an evidence room, jail and  K-9 units. We named the dogs Rex, Cody and Echo. The police have handcuffs and pistols.

Boys Post - Saturday April 9, 2011 - Planting with Mom

We started some plants in shoes to put out in the garden. We planted cat nip, lettuce and marigolds. They have really grown since we took the following photos. We might pick some of the lettuce this week to eat. It was fun to pick out the seeds and fill the shoes with dirt. Mom thinks it will be fun to have the shoes mixed in the gardens this summer. Have a good weekend. Sam and Atticus :-)

The last couple hours in Mexico

The last couple hours we ate supper and played with some of the kids. The staff of the church made us a great meal. It was really good. Everything was different. From the way the food was prepared, to what they like for dessert. It was a lot fun. After the dinner we played football (soccer) .... the natives had the advantage over us American boys!

We headed home just as it was turning dark. We had a long wait in the line at customs. Our passports were checked and the van was looked at too. The American Customs agent moved some items around in the van - then we got the clear to go home. While waiting in line at customs the native people were trying to sell us beans, newspapers and flowers. As we got closer to the Border Patrol, they left us alone.
We drove in the desert on the way home and had to stop about one hour into the United States for another Border Patrol check. It was cold outside! The United States Soldiers had heaters blowing on them outside. They had big guns and checked the van. We were clear to go. But a couple other cars were stopped and people had to get out. We drove all night, back to San Diego, California. It was a windy ride home. It was very cold. During the day it was over 100 degrees. On the ride home the van's thermometer read 40 degrees! It was also windy. Big gust of wind would blow across the desert. 
We made it home at 2:00 in the morning April 8th. It was a great experience. We felt good helping others.

WALKING AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD

MEXICALI, MEXICO

  Walking around and looking at the different homes in Mexico. Sam would like to report "housing is different in Mexico, then in Northern Wisconsin."

Cool Car!

Our walk around the neighborhood, it made us thankful for what we have here in the United States. Mom did not get a photo of the sewage system. It was a ditch in the town. All the sewage flowed to the ditch and sat. It was amazing how quick things can change, we were only forty miles into Mexico. Wow! What a change from how we live in the United States.

Sam and Atticus Post - Mexico part 3

We are helping build the kitchen.

This is our Dad. He is helping build.

He made several friends.

Communication was sometimes hard. Dad had to wait for the translator to let him know what needed to be done. We studied Spanish for three months. We only knew a few words. When they talk to you, it is so fast that is hard to pick up what they are saying. But a smile goes a long way!

We got to paint the outside of the storage area. We started and soon some of the other kids in the neighborhood visited. They wanted to paint too.

Atticus did not drink enough water, he began to get sick. The heat is hard to get use to in a day...especially when you are from Northern Wisconsin and it is WINTER. Mom took me into the sanctuary of the Church. She let me lay down on her legs as a pillow. I rested for an hour and was back to work.

Next week we will take a walk around the neighborhood. 

Thursday Post by: Sam and Atticus - Mexico part 2

Hey, it is me Atticus. We separated clothing that we brought over. We had a nice pile.

Helping make lunch for the work crew.

We went to a WalMart in Mexicali. It was different then our WalMarts...they did not have the eggs in the coolers. The eggs were stacked on top of each other right as you came into the store. They had tons of oranges and other fruit. A lot more fruit then what we have.

We did balloon animals for the children and counted with them in Spanish. We also said other Spanish words we knew. It was fun to try to talk with them.
