What is parked in front of the neighbors?

In June I looked out our dinning room window and had to look again! "Wow, look at that car!"

We rushed outside to check it out.

I would love to go for a ride.

A photo next to it will do. :)

Now, can you guess what model or make this car is? Is it an American made car or foreign car?
Give me your best guess.

Cheese Ball Game

I did not get the best of photos. I was in charge of this game at our Family Fourth of July party. I was laughing too hard, when I was not organizing.
Wanted to share this before Labor Day...just in case some of you are planning a Labor Day family party.

Cheese Ball Game

Supplies

Shower caps
Shaving cream
Cheese Balls
Family Members

Team members...pick a person to wear the shower cap full of shaving cream. The other team member will stand in front of other member...and toss cheese balls into the shaving cream. The goal is to get as many cheese balls on your team members head of shaving cream. You are racing against another team.

What have I gotten myself into?

"Mom, are you sure this is a safe game?" Wait a minute! Looking at this picture...I think I see a cheese ball stuffed in that cheek!

Yay! We won!
We had a blast playing this...lots of laughs...and everyone smelled good.

Have fun!!

Reach High!

Many of us have friends who are heading off to college or kids heading off for a new adventure. About this time a little pick me up may be needed...a batch of homemade cookies and a fun photo card with a encouraging message inside.

Nothing brings more satisfaction than doing quality work, than knowing that you've done the very best you can.

Another crayon art

I am still playing around with crayon art. I enjoy seeing how it melts. I gave this one to my sister. She just finished remodeling her house. Her craft room is different shades of blue. I thought this would be fun for her.

What new craft you tried this summer?

The Wisconsin Road Guide to Gangster Hot Spots

To get ready for your Gangster adventure...be sure to pick up this book at your local library! I read this book to our boys, they loved it! Chad Lewis uses humor with facts to make this not only a helpful book for study, but also a great read!

Two items I want to share with you. Yesterday's post was about how Dillinger and his gang had a major shootout with the FBI. The FBI, believing that they finally had the gangsters trapped, outmanned and out gunned, lit up the night with gun fire. The onslaught of bullets tore through the entire lodge, windows shattered from the incoming lead, and those inside feared for their lives. The FBI had no idea that their worst nightmare had come true and that all the gangsters were already well on their way to freedom.
How can this be?? Check out the book to finish this amazing story.

Bloody Robbery of the Kraft State Bank
Menomonie, WI
What we liked so much about the book is it takes you to the grisly locations where gangster history will never die. We do not live far from Menomonie. Wow! We drove right past this place.

Barker Lake Lodge
Winter, Wisconsin
This time we had to yell for dad. "Dad, did you know your hometown had a gangster hideout??"

Happy Reading!

Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin

Manitowish Waters is a beautiful small town in Northeast Wisconsin. It is full of gangster history! Did you know that Wisconsin is full of gangster history? More on that tomorrow.
We visited Little Bohemia...the famous resort that Dillinger, Babyface Nelson and others from the Dillinger gang were taking it easy at. The owners of the resort took a risk and informed the FBI about Dillinger and his gang.

April of 1934 the famous shootout took place at  Little Bohemia. It was amazing to us that Dillinger and his gang got away! I will share more about the story tomorrow.

Today, I will post some photos of the resort. I highly recommend, if you live in Wisconsin to visit Little Bohemia. Even if you are not into gangsters :) ...this is amazing Wisconsin history!

While at Little Bohemia be sure to check out the upstairs museum. It is full of artifacts the gangsters left behind. The lodge continues to use the bullet holed windows and dinning room full of bullet holes from the gunfight with the FBI!

This photo does not capture all the bullet holes, but gives a bit of an idea.

2008 the movie Public Enemies was partly filmed on location at Little Bohemia.

The drive in...as you drive in, you are following the footsteps of Dillinger! The place uses the advertising claim that "Dillinger only left because he had to."

Second Chance - A Tale of Two Puppies

The boys and I just finished reading this wonderful book. It is a wonderful story about responsibility. The boys were hooked on it and we read extra each night so we could find out what was going to happen.

If your family is planning to adopt a pet, this book is a must read. It will help prepare you and your kids for the responsibility a pet requires.

If you already have a pet, this is a great reminder of how your pet becomes a part of your family!

Author, Judy Masrud also has a wonderful blog

We found Second Chance with the help of our local library.
Happy Reading!

We had a very nice time with family. I had a great time going blackberry picking with my mom. My mom is recovering from a very bad injury...so she did the driving and talking (to keep the bear away). I did the picking.

It is not over

Our local Marketplace creates the most exciting displays with soda cartons! I forgot my camera every time we visited for the Memorial Day display. I told myself I will not forget this time. We just love it!
The Paralympic Games
In 2012, the city of London will not only be hosting the Olympic Games; it will also be hosting the Paralympic Games. Since 1960, athletes with disabilities have competed in the Paralympic Games. The word paralympic is a combination of the Greek affix para, which means "alongside" or "beside" and the word Olympics. The athletes who qualify for the Paralympic Games have disabilities, such as the following:
blindness or visual impairment
cerebral palsy
intellectual disability
spinal injury
amputation
Though the Paralympic Games weren't officially held until 1960, the beginnings of this event can be traced back to 1948. Back then, an English doctor from Stoke Mandeville Hospital named Ludwig Guttman felt that a competition would be helpful in rehabilitating the many soldiers who were severely injured on the battlegrounds of World War II. He helped organize physical competitions between patients, and these early competitions were referred to as Stoke Mandeville Games. It is from this that 2012 Paralympic  mascot Mandeville gets its name.

I will share a few stories about Paralympic athletes this coming week.

On the Road Friday

Duluth, Minnesota

We love to visit Duluth. We do not have to spend too much money, because we are happy packing a picnic lunch and watching the freighters.

The following photos were taken in 2010. Jeremy and I did a day trip to Duluth in June. We hiked along the lake and split a fancy apple from the Chocolate Factory - check out the Duluth Chocolate Factory

The local Lake Superior Marine Museum has a boat watch pamphlet printed out. You can pick one up and it gives you estimated times that freighters will be coming into or leaving port.

One of my many dreams is to ride along on a freighter on the Great Lakes. I am fascinated about what it is like to be a sailor. What do you eat? What are the sunrises and sunsets like? What are the storms like?

For today, I will just dream and wonder what it is like to ride on one of these amazing freighters.

For more information about watching the freighters at the Duluth port check out the following site - Duluth - Lake Superior Info

You make the call

On August 29, 2004 in Athens, Greece, a Brazilian runner named Vanderlei de Lima was in first place in the men's marathon at the Olympic Games. He had a lead of almost 30 seconds. Suddenly, a man jumped out of the crowd and grabbed the runner. He wrestled with him, and knocked him into a group of spectators. When he got free, the marathoner continued on the course, but he had lost valuable time. He was soon passed by two other runners. He earned the bronze medal, but many people felt that he had been robbed of the gold. The Brazilian Track Federation made an appeal so that de Lima could be awarded first place, but the appeal was rejected.

The IOC awarded de Lima the Pierre de Coubertin Award for the sportsmanship and grace he showed in the way he handled the incident. In 2005, a gold - medal - winning Brazilian volleyball player named Emanuel Rego gave de Lima his gold medal on national TV, but de Lima did not accept the medal. He said, "I can not accept Emanuel's medal. I'm happy with mine; it is bronze but it means gold."

All adopted

All of our babies have been adopted. We were able to keep one, the fella in the middle is our little guy. His name is Frodo. He seems to be happy to be the only little bunny, receiving lots of attention.

Our other five babies were adopted to good homes. We asked questions about care and feeding before just handing over the babies. It was fun to see the joy involved in each adoption.

Adoption #1
A dad came to adopt two bunnies for his boys. This was a surprise, his boys had no idea!
It would have been fun to be a fly on the wall to see how excited the boys got.
Adoption #2
A lonely middle aged lady came, she wanted one, for company. She was down because of some sad things that had happened. She picked out our little one we named Sam.
Yes, you notice Frodo, Sam...yes we had a Merry...Yep, you guessed it, from Lord of the Rings.
Adoption #3
A mom with three boys came. They were so excited. They adopted our last two black bunnies.

This was a great learning time for the boys. Not just to see the birth and growth. But to ask questions to the possible new owners.
Yes, I did turn two people down, I just did not feel they were responsible pet owners.
Have you had kittens, puppies or other animals to give away or sell? How did it feel for you to let them go?
