Crafting with Pine Cones

Look real close, can you see a pine cone flower?

This Spring during a hike in the Kettle Moraine State Forest I noticed pine cone flowers.
What?
You can see the large pine cone. The flower pine cones are made by squirrels.  They have eaten the pine cones. They left a perfect flower.

My aunt Sharon and I are picking pine cone flowers.

This is an eaten to make a pine cone flower steam.
I bundled the pine cones and wrapped burlap around them.

A bouquet of pine cone flowers.

 Has nature suprised you lately?
Have you discovered something you have never seen before?

  1. I never noticed these before. Great craft idea! My 3 yr old granddaugter and I noticed how the acorns were much more plentiful one year. She gathered a huge pile and then told me, "Now go get me a squirrel!"

  4. Carla, this is so interesting. I didn't know the squirrels ate them this way. What a cute bouquet of pinecone flowers, and the burlap tie adds a nice touch. I just took pics of this silly squirrel this morning when sipping on my coffee in the park. They amaze me, but don't like to get too close to them. This is a great idea that you and your Aunt Sharon thought of.

  5. How clever! This is really awesome! We have lots of pine cones and squirrels around here, and I never knew they eat them. And I never would have thought of this. And it will last practically forever!

  7. We're having a heatwave, so nature is inspiring me to stay indoors! But I must say I love your pinecones. The squirrels did a nice job!

  11. Those pinecone flowers are so pretty! Makes we want to take a look at the pine cones in our woods. I've never seen anything that looked like those before though. Our squirrels must eat the tops too.
