May and December my two busy months of the year! And it is the Hodgepodge!

Hello Friends!
Happy May!
My title says it all about the month of May!
May has always been a busy month for our family. School is coming to an end. And this year it is really coming to an end for one of my fellas! We are busy planning a graduation. The garden season is upon us, yard clean up and planning for the farm market.

 Spring has Sprung!
Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.

 1. April showers bring May flowers or so the saying goes. Is there a flower you associate with a particular memory? Explain.
Daffodils! My grandpa loved daffodils and he planted his entire hillside in daffodils. It was the most beautiful sight in the spring. He also liked peony. He had many peony and the scent of peony take me to memories of mowing lawn with him.

2. Last time you helped someone? Tell us how.
I helped my son Sam with his bank account. I like to go over things with him every few months. Checking to see that he is on top of balancing and bank statements.

3. It's National Salsa Month (the food, not the dance) so tell us, do you like salsa? Hot, medium, or mild? Homemade, store bought, or from your favorite restaurant only?
Mr.C from Cranberry Morning makes the best homemade salsa I have ever had. Yes, I love salsa and can do some major damage to a bowl of salsa and chips.

 4. When I was twelve years old...
My best friend was a girl named Dana. We had so much fun together. She moved a few years later. It is always hard when a best buddy moves away.

5. It's the first of May so let's run with it-first things first, don't know the first thing about it, first dibs on something, first impression, first rate, first cousin, first string, first come first served, at first light-which phrase can best be applied to something in your life currently or even recently?
At first light. After a long winter it is so wonderful to hear birds signing at first light. The robins are the first to come back North to Wisconsin. I love hearing their song at first light. Spring has Sprung!

6. Insert your own random thought here.
I will be "out of the office" often this month. We have several fun events on the calendar and prep work for some of those events.

Enjoy May my friends!
Talk to you soon.

15 years today! May 31, 1997 - May 31, 2012

15 years ago today, we said our "I do's"
It was an interesting wedding day, family issues, wedding cake falling over and a reception we did not plan!

Someone asked me Sunday after church, "If you could do it all over again, would you?" "Oh, yes, I would!" I replied.
Marring Jeremy, I would do all over again. The wedding day itself,  I could do over or do with out!

I would, I love Jeremy. God has blessed me with a wonderful husband. He is my best friend. We have a blessed relationship, we are best friends. When I say that, I mean it. I do not have a girl best friend. Some may think that strange. I can explain. Jeremy and I have been through a lot of junk together. We only had each other. Some of the junk happened before we became believers in Jesus! We found Jesus together! Two, lost people and we find Him together!

Today, I thank God for Jeremy! My best friend.

God Bless the USA

My country, 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty
Of thee I sing:
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrim's pride,
From every mountain side
Let freedom ring.

On the Road Friday

On the road to National Day of Prayer
First Thursday of May
A note from President Harry S. Truman

But all of us - at home, at war, wherever we may be - are within the reach of God's love and power. We all can pray. We all should pray. We should ask the fulfillment of God's will. We should ask for courage, wisdom, for the quietness of soul which comes alone to them who place their lives in His hands.

Pray for America
The Lord reigns forever, he has established his throne for judgment. He will judge the world in righteousness, he will govern the peoples with justice. The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.

Psalm 9:7-10

Pray for Government
All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord.

Psalm 86:9

Pray for Repentance
Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

Isaiah 55:7

Pray for Wisdom
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

James 1:5

Pray for Peace
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

John 14:27

Mother Says

Mother Says
Famous Last Words
If you do not stop, your face will freeze like that.

I only have 2 hands.

Let me kiss it to make it better.

Because I said so.

Because I am your Mother.

Go ask your Father.

Eat it, it is good for you.

Don't put that in your mouth, you do not know where it has been.

I don't care who started it.

Get your hair out of your face.

You call that music?

Clean your plate, there are starving children.

Money does not grow on trees.

If all your friends jumped off a cliff would you do it too?

Don't ever forget that I love you.

You'll always be my Baby.

Happy Mother's Day

My Mom

My Mom
My mom is a gifted seamstress. She created and sewed my wedding dress. She mends several items for the boys. They both are shocked at how fast grandma is at the sewing machine.
My mom created the following pattern for some pillows. They turned out so lovely! Everyone who has seen them as said how much they like them. They also hinted they would not mind receiving a set.
A fun pillow created by my Mom!

Comfy and Cozy!

Time to get comfy with a book.
As we gear up for Mother's Day on Sunday, does/did your mom have a special gift? Something no other mom could seem to do as good as your mom could?

Celebrating Mom with you all!

Grilling Turkey

We have grilled a turkey for Mother's Day for the past twelve years. My parents come to our home and we celebrate Mother's Day together. Here are some tips from Jeremy on grilling a perfect turkey.
1. Clean the turkey out
2. Cut slab of fat out of the cavity and set aside to use
3. Salt the inside of turkey
4. Cut two small slits for the wing tips to go inside the skin
5. Place the fat on the top of the breast bone
6. Salt and Pepper turkey
To grill - use a disposable pie plate and place in the center of the grill. See photo above...set coals around the pie plate. You will place the turkey on the grill once the coals are white. Depending on the weather cook time can be estimated  12 to 15 minutes per pound.

Enjoy! I love grilled turkey! My husband does a great job. My mom looks forward to her Mother's Day meal every May.

Garlic Potatoes

Garlic Potatoes
8 russet potatoes, peeled and sliced into 1/4 inch think half moons.
4 tablespoons - plus 1 tablespoon
3 garlic cloves, chopped
Nice hand full of chives, chopped (use green onion if you do not have fresh chives)
1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a large baking pan, toss potatoes and 4 tablespoons of butter together. Season with salt and pepper. Spread potatoes in a single layer and roast until golden, about 35 minutes.
Meanwhile, in a small skillet over medium heat, melt remaining butter. Add garlic and chives and cook until golden, about 3 minutes. Pour garlic and chive butter mixture over potatoes and sprinkle cheese on top. Serve hot and enjoy.

Cheese is the finishing touch!

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day
Happy Mother's Day to my Mom and Grandma! They both are special to me.
My Grandma, she has always listened to my stories.(some of the stories were far fetched-when I was little) She made my childhood extra special with all the extras she did for me and my sister.
My Mom, she has guided me and given me advice when I need. She has helped me become who I am today. I thank her!
Love You !
