Light the way

Glow stick Lanterns
These glow stick lanterns were fun to make ... but I will warn you. We had one break, while shaking the glow stick. So be careful or be ready for a mess.
For this project you will need
 Canning jars with lids
Glow sticks
Sharp scissors
What to do
Use a pair of sharp scissors to cut off the end of a glow stick and pour the contents of the glow stick into the canning jar. It works best to have the stick down in the jar when you cut it so you won't get the liquid everywhere. We bought glow sticks in several different colors and poured two glow sticks into each jar.
If you have never seen the inside of a glow stick before, there are small pieces of glass floating around in the glowing liquid. Just dump in the jar, put the lid on and let your child roll the stuff around. The liquid will coat the  inside of  the jar.

After you are done, you can rinse out your jar and use again.

Add your jars for tonight...as you light the way for Trick or Treat!

Happy Halloween
You are  like a pumpkin, too!
Jesus picks you, washes you;
Takes away the slime of sin,
Lets his light of love shine in.
Now you smile with Jesus' light,
Helping make the world more bright!
Light the Way!

Team Roping

Saddle Bronc Riding

Bull Riding

Bull Riding and the clowns in for the rescue!

Sorry clowns...you can not get me!

Okay, I was just having a little fun. I will go back in my pen!
This was my favorite event. I loved this bull! He had an attitude. It took awhile to get him to decide to head back to his pen. It was great fun watching everyone work together and the bull made it safe and sound to his pen.
Chuck Wagon Racing

Calf Scramble
Have any of you been to a rodeo? This was our boys first. They enjoyed it. I think it is amazing how brave these folks can be to ride bulls, bronco's and jump off a horse and wrestle a steer. Well, brave may not be the word some of you are thinking. :)

Have a great autumn weekend!

Look who is fishing!

Take a peek on the dock, above my husband. Yes, that is who would like to go fishing. This is my Aunt and Uncle's cat. She loves to chase your fishing line. She was so excited with this little fish coming her way.

A fish dinner for a cat! Two happy fishing buddies!

Rodeo Houston part 2

On the Road Friday
We will take a trip inside the Reliant Center and take a peek of all that is offered at the Rodeo Houston! (If you are wondering why I am saying Rodeo Houston, instead of Houston Rodeo, that is what they call it in Texas) :)

Texas Longhorn
I was so excited to meet a Texas Longhorn! The only cattle breed in America which truly adapted to America! Intelligent, easy to work and handle.
Of course when we want a photo with a Longhorn, he decides to take a bite of hay!

The lambs where born right in the Reliant Center! The Texas Farm Bureau does an amazing job of educating folks about farming and feeding the world. Wonderful!! God Bless our Farmers!
Texas sheep producers shear 600,000 sheep every year.
Texas is number 12 in the nation with corn production. Iowa is number 1 with  2,292,163,101 yearly bushel production!

Texas is also number 12 with pork production.

Elsie the cow. She was so sweet and pretty.

Meeting the animals. Pigs, chickens, turkey, goats, sheep, cows, you name it, it was in the Reliant Center, Houston, Texas!

The Texas Farm Bureau had trading cards to collect about each AGventure we toured. The boys are collecting from some nice cowgirls.

Bees! About one-third of all the food Americans eat is dependent upon honey bee pollination.

Texas #1 with Beef population.
Texas has the most beef cattle in the United States.

Thank you for coming with me...meet here next Friday for the Rodeo!
Have a great weekend.

Cranberries and Friends

We recently took some friends on a tour of Copper River Cranberry Marsh located in Merrill, Wisconsin. My sister and her husband are part owners. It is an amazing way of farming. I explained Wisconsin Cranberries last year, if you need a refresher on cranberries peek at the following posts

On with our tour
Cranberries waiting to be harvested.

Our friend receiving a lesson about cranberries from my brother - in - law, Josh.

Did you know cranberries float?

I think cranberries are so beautiful!

A swan out on the marsh! Beautiful! My sister shared with us that his or her mate went missing about a month ago.
We had a beautiful fall day for our tour.
Come back tomorrow for a new recipe using cranberries.

Spiced Up Apple Chips

Spiced Up Apple Chips
We loved how these apple chips turned out. They did not last a day. I just love the star in the center of the apple. We had several  apples with the star center. We thought they would make fun Christmas tree garland, if we did not eat all of them first.
Spiced Up Apple Chips

Preheat oven to 200 degrees
Place sugar, cinnamon and other spice (I used nutmeg and ginger too) in a bowl. I did this all by taste...just until I got that right flavor.

Slice your apples as thin as you can. Gently pat dry. Place apples in bowl of cinnamon and sugar, coat apples.
Place apples on a baking pan.
Bake apples until crisped. My apples took four hours. They were perfect. Our house smelled great too.

Have fun and enjoy!

Funny on Sunday

Once there were four business men. They were sitting on a bench in a
hospital waiting room because their wives were having babies. A nurse
comes over and says to the first businessman, "Congratulations! Your wife
had 1 baby." The man says, "What a coincidence! I'm the president of
And1!" The nurse goes away. Then the nurse comes back and says to the
second businessman, "Congratulations! Your wife had twins!" The man
says, "What a coincidence! I'm the owner of the Minnesota Twins!" The
nurse goes away. The nurse comes back and says to the third businessman,
"Congratulations! Your wife had triplets!" The man says, "What a
coincidence! I work for Triple Crown!" The nurse goes away. The nurse
comes back and sees the fourth businessman alone on the bench crying.
She asks, "Why are you crying"? The man replies, "I work for Seven Up"!!

2012 Houston Rodeo

On the Road Friday
We are heading to Texas today...and for the next couple of On the Road Friday's.

Rodeo Houston
(yes, they do call it Rodeo Houston...not Houston Rodeo)
Feb. 28 - March 18
2012
This past March we had the opportunity to visit Texas. My aunt and uncle live in Texas. It was a real treat for us to visit in March. We had a blast. One of the fun things my aunt and uncle treated us to was the Rodeo Houston! A rodeo in downtown Houston, Texas. Once you take a peek at my photos you will wonder...who do the cows, horses and other critters end up in the city. It is hard to believe that cattle trailers bring them downtown like this. Well, it was hard for me to believe. It my not be for you. :)
We had a great time. All of it was amazing.
So let's get started and take a peek outside the Reliant.
Reliant Stadium - Houston, Texas

Livestock Show 2012
It is so much more than a rodeo. The Texas Farm Bureau puts on hands on education for all ages. There is tons of shopping inside and amazing Texas food.
I loved this sculpture.

I think his tail in the wind is amazing.

All three flags...flying in the blue Texas sky.

All the cows, sheep, bulls, horses...and more. They all traveled through that...skyscrapers to get here. Can you tell I am a country bumpkin!

Beautiful.
Well that was a peek of the outside. Next week we will go inside.
Thank You for coming with me on Friday's road trip.

Serving others .... it makes ya feel good!

We recently had the opportunity to join in to serve one of our local nursing homes.
We made a scarecrow family, eating thanksgiving dinner for the residents to enjoy.
We are receiving help getting our pumpkin ready to decorate. We got to make a boy. Yay!

A key for a nose...beads for a smile...straw for hair.

Putting this boy together.

Good, his head fits.

The gang is all here! Some heads are still on the table...looking for bodies!

All heads are on...now we will decorate the table. One of the young ladies made a turkey out of duct tape. It was amazing! I wish I would have gotten a photo of it. She even put season salt on it to look freshly pulled from the oven.
We enjoyed our afternoon. The best part was the wonderful comments we received from the staff at the nursing home.

Success is not built on what we accomplish for ourselves. Its foundation lies in what we do for others.
