Happy January
The lakes are frozen solid here in Northwest Wisconsin. The ice froze very smooth this season, some people have been able to ice skate on the lake.
It is Wednesday and that means it is time for the Hodgepodge.
Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.
1. It's been said January is 'the month of opportunity, inspiration, and change." Which of the three do you need most right now? Elaborate.
I am going to go with change. Because we are going to purchase a new vehicle and we are going to change brands of vehicle.
2. Do you consider opportunity as something that comes to you or something you create for yourself?
I think it is a little of both. Many times you still have to work at it.
3. The British Museum opened on this date (January 15th) back in 1759. Do you like visiting museums? Do you have a favorite?
We do.
I love this sweet museum on Madeline Island, Lake Superior.
Click below to check it out...
4. It's National Oatmeal Month (yes, apparently it gets a whole month as opposed to a single day).
Do you like oatmeal? How often do you eat a bowl of oatmeal? How do you
like yours? What about an oatmeal cookie? Is that a sweet treat you
enjoy?
I do like oatmeal. I usually eat a bowl of oatmeal three or four times a month for breakfast. I like to add craisins, walnuts and drizzle/dump some maple syrup on top.
Oh yes to oatmeal cookies. Oatmeal cookies are a favorite of mine and our son Sam.
5.What's something useful you learned in high school?
I had an interesting history teacher in high school. We had a lesson on the Curse of Tippecanoe. And it stuck with me. Whenever a Presidential election comes up, it will juggle my memory of the curse and I will start talking about it. Most people, including my husband never heard of it. Ha! We did not attend the same high school.
I taught my boys the Curse of Tippecanoe, so this useful information has been passed down. And check out the link below and you will know all about it too...
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Back in December Joyce asked if we could have an Elf help us get something done for Christmas.. I wanted to bake a few more cookies. And I did!
Love the cookies and interesting piece about the curse.
ReplyDeleteI will check out the Curse of Tippecanoe. Your cookies all look SO GOOD. Especially the chocolate one with the icing in the middle. I love double doozies- so sweet and so much but incredibly good. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteLiving in the South, I didn't realize people go ice skating on the lakes much anymore. It is a different kind of steady cold there vs a few weeks of it here. That is fun to get a new car and hope y'all enjoy learning all the new features!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the history lesson. I've heard of Tippecanoe but didn't remember the details. I'm glad you got your cookies baked. Those sandwich cookies look so good! Have a nice day!
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of the curse of Tippecanoe I am going to check that out. Stay warm and cozy we are in the throws of it now. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteHow funny, Tippecanoe sounds familiar but I don't remember it. I'll go read. Mmm, I'd like to make some oatmeal pie cookies about now.
ReplyDeleteI need to get a chicken cookie cutter and make some for our granddaughter - they have chickens!! How interesting about the Curse of Tippencanoe!! When I opened your blog and saw the photo of the frozen lake . . .I actually shivered. hahaha!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! That frozen lake is beautiful! I don't think I would be brave enough to skate on it though.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your new vehicle.
Reading about the Curse of Tippecanoe was so interesting.
"And Tyler, too." I remember that not from my high school classes but from when I was a US History high school teacher. I hadn't heard of the Curse though.
ReplyDeleteI've been to the British Museum. It's an amazing place.
Ice skating on the lake sounds perfect. Good luck with getting a new car. I thought a little of both on that question too. Your oatmeal sounds yummy. I've never heard of it but it's very interesting. Good for you on baking those cookies.
ReplyDeleteThe cookies look so yummy! What kind of car are you getting, and why did you change brands? I have heard of Tippecanoe, but not the details, it was interesting to read.
ReplyDeleteI will click on that link after I comment and see what I've missed or what I learned many years ago but my old brain won't recall!! I'm ready for some good Christmas cookies now that they have disappeared so many weeks ago. Yes to Oatmeal cookies! Happy end of the week to you.
ReplyDeleteAwe....these are the cutest cookies. I looked up Tippecanoe...I had never heard of this before. Very interesting...History was one of those classes that I took for granted. I should have been a better student. I love that you all can skate on the lake. I would love to live up North for just one season!! Happy Thursday Carla.
ReplyDeleteThis is strange. I'm sure I commented on this. I know I read the whole thing. Great post!
ReplyDeleteI'll take a bag of those cookies....pretty please! Doesn't the whole house smell heavenly when you bake! I want to make some brownies next week. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI've heard of Tippecanoe but didn't remember what it was about. Thank you for teaching me! Those cookies look so good, especially the sandwich cookies. Yum! I also want more oatmeal because of you. :) Do you ice skate?
ReplyDeleteI'm a big oatmeal eater...I would say I have it about 5 days a week. It's best in winter when I'm chilly and it's warm...mmm!!
ReplyDeleteAwwww I love your cookies! Especially that filled one! I love oatmeal and don't eat it often enough but sometimes I'll just have it for supper, hahaha! xoxo
