While walking in a Christmas Village, our Ernie made friends with the light up dog.
We laughed as Ernie was bound to meet this fella, I was just happy he did not steal his candy-cane bone you see in the snow.
It is Wednesday, that means it is time for the Hodgepodge.
Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.
1. At the end of every year (or at least since the mid-1970's) Lake Superior State University posts a list of words they think should be banished from the Queen's English for misuse, overuse, and/or general uselessness. You can read more about the decision making process here, but this year's list includes-
Which of these words/phrases do you use regularly or even just every now and then? I have said game changer, utilize and period. I don't think I overuse any that I have mentioned. How many did you have to look up? I am not familiar with skibidi. Which of these words would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? I would choose skibidi, because it is not really a word. Is there a word/phrase not on the list you'd like to add? If so do share, then tell us why. I am a bit surprised "word salad" is not on the list.
2. Your favorite soup? Do you make this one yourself or is it from a can?
Chicken Noodle.. I make it homemade, broth too!
3. How do you feel about winter? What's one winter activity you look forward to?
I do not mind winter. It is a time for me to rest for the busy garden season ahead.
We enjoy going for winter hikes, snowshoeing and cross country skiing.
4. The Pantone color of the year for 2025 is mocha mousse (sample pictured here). What say you? The website describes it as 'a warming, brown hue imbued with richness. It nourishes us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort'. Is this a color I might find in your home or wardrobe? Is it one you might add in some big or small way in the year ahead?
I like the color. And yes you would find browns in our home and outside of our home. Our outdoor furniture is a shade of brown. You will find this color in my wardrobe.
We probably will add something of this color to our home. And I am sure I will to my wardrobe.
In a similar, but not really vein...if I were to offer you a choice right now of either a cup of mocha or a cup of mousse which would you say yes to?
Mocha
5. Which of the following winter related idioms can best be applied to your life in some way right now? Choose one, then tell us why you chose it.
snowed under, on thin ice, tip of the iceberg, chill out, break the ice, snowball effect, not a snowball's chance in hell, get cold feet, the cold shoulder
Chill out ... that is what we are doing in January. We do not have any BIG plans or entertaining we are doing in the month of January. We are working on a few projects that are leftover from 2024, organizing and cleaning, taking our time doing it.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
A few more photos from the Prairie Farm Christmas Village we visited.
That little bit of snow you see has melted. We have NO snow here in Northwest Wisconsin, bare ground.
In Memory of the three fallen police officers who were murdered in 2023 in our village and neighboring rural community.
♥

It looks like we might actually get some snow on Friday evening, along with ice. The lake area doesn't always get the weather the areas right around us do so we'll see if it materializes. It would be pretty since we're home this weekend. So sad to hear of police officers killed. I love the little dog lit up. Have a nice day!
ReplyDeleteSnow with lights around it is so pretty! I love the idea of chilling out in January after a busy fall. What a kind memorial to the police officers. I am glad they are being remembered by the community. Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Carla. I am glad you can enjoy the winter festivities and going on the trails. Little Ernie is so cute meeting up with the light up doggie. Wishing you lots of fun through the next few months of winter. Have a great week. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteThree officers were killed in your village? What a terrible tragedy. I could not think of an apt idiom but chill out would be an applicable one for me as well. So far my January has been chill and I hope it stays that way. You garden? Can't wait to hear more about it during the spring and summer :).
ReplyDeleteAwww...such cute photos of Ernie! It's a weird winter, for sure, and not much snow in the forecast. Meanwhile, in DC and Texas... Take care, and stay warm!
ReplyDeleteErnie made another friend, of course he did! I like that Panetone color, very soothing! I've heard the word skibidi but would have no idea how to use it in a sentence. I say game changer and cringe (y). I could get rid of sorry not sorry for sure! We are taking January pretty easy ourselves. Lots to do around the house! I'm making a 15 bean soup right now in the crockpot!
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of your Chill out January! The village lights are cool. Sad for the families of those police officers. We have no snow to speak of right now, either. A real homemade chicken noodle soup sounds delicious!
ReplyDeleteWow, that was a sobering end to such fun and festive lights. Not sure how to comment. I cannot imagine how that impacted your community. Glad your cute doggies enjoyed the lights as well. And hooray for chilling out in January (literally and otherwise!):)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on "word salad." It certainly got used a lot this year even though I don't think I'd heard the term before 2024. Love your snow picture and your dog making acquaintance with the lit up pup. That's cute!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute photo of Ernie and the lite-up dog. Of course, Ernie is much more handsome!
ReplyDeleteSad about the slain officers in your community. Senseless. I am sure their families are grateful for the love and remembrance for their loved ones.
This village looks amazing. and oh my GOSH, Ernie and the light-up dog! The photo is precious!! I think my favorite soup is chicken noodle as well.
ReplyDeleteI would be happy to send you some snow from Ohio. Since I am a relative newbie to snow season (we did live in IL for 4 winters in our early marriage years), I don't have any snow/winter activities except looking out the window and admiring the dropping snowflakes.
ReplyDeleteThat mocha mousse color? Just not to my taste :)
So glad Ernie did not grab that bone either, but so cute he tried to make friends. Am against banning any words or phrases...let folks say what they want. Who cares...but did wonder why word salad was not on their list myself? It is always heart wrenching to hear about our hero's in blue who are killed just doing their job. So very sad. Janice
ReplyDeleteThe doggy picture made me laugh. Homemade soup > can! And Mocha, even though it's not super cold here .
ReplyDeleteThat is such a cute photo of Ernie. I haven't heard of word salad. Good for you making the soup at home. I just haven't been into cooking anything. I'm glad you like winter. It can be very beautiful. I think it's a nice color. Good for you chilling out. I love the pictures you shared. Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteLovely post and photographs.
ReplyDeleteErnie is so sweet trying to make friends with the light up dog :)
All the best Jan
Loving the picture of Ernie and the light up dog!
ReplyDeleteWe love homemade soups too! It's been a while since I made chicken noodle though it is one that I really like.
Blessings~
Oh my goodness, that first picture of Ernie is just too cute!! What a sweet and silly moment you captured. I love it!
