Oh the weather... it is always something to talk about, right? Our winter started with the above photo. We had snow, but it melted and then it rained making mud.
Then we got some more snow. Ernie likes to play in the snow.
And now we are in the deep freeze. A fun activity to do when we are in a deep freeze is make luminaries. I like to use pine boughs, pinecones, cranberries and oranges to decorate my luminary. The only problem is the candle does not last long burning on a cold night.
She brewed her tea in a chipped blue china pot, pouring it steaming into a pink and white flowered cup, added honey and cream and took it to the cozy room in the house. She settled in by the window to watch the birds come to the feeders.
When little things are so nice, she thought, they become the big things.

The luminary is so pretty! Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are enjoying your winter chill! I know that I am in (since I have been and plan to be mostly indoors :)). Have a great Monday!
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever idea -- the ice with candle!!
ReplyDeleteErnie's little snow frost chin is cute! I love your luminary, how beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWe are in the deep freeze down here too. I have been filling the bird feeders for the poor birds and I even got peanuts for the squirrels that will stay out of the feeders if I give them peanuts. Crazy! Stay warm and have a good week. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteAs you know the weather is one of my favorite topics : ) I love the luminaries! So pretty in the snow! I'm sipping my tea right now too.
ReplyDeleteCarla, your luminary is so pretty. And I love how you put pine cones, cranberries and oranges inside. This is such a creative thing to do, especially during the cold winter months. Ernie is enjoying himself in the snow! He's sooooo cute. And I often wonder about these precious birds making their way and finding food in such weather. Bundle up, and stay warm, Carla. That phrase, "she brewed her tea" is delightful.

**my new candle with the conversation hearts smells really nice, like berries and flowers all in one.. ; )
I love this quote! It reminds me of another one that I really like "Someday you will look back on your life and realize that the little things were really the big things. This is a beautiful luminary, like a pretty work of art.
ReplyDeleteThe luminaries are so pretty, Carla! I love the addition of those red cranberries. Beautiful!! I haven't tried making one yet, but it's on my list! Stay warm...it's coold out there!! xo
ReplyDeleteOh I love that luminary. We had snow this weekend. The youngest was very excited. He played and built a little snowman.
ReplyDeleteI am happy that you have snow. We have none, while our temps are subzero at night. I hope I won't lose any plants, but I'm preparing for some losses. :( Beautiful luminary. <3
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty luminary. Too bad the candle does not last long. I feel bad for the animals in this cold weather. Try to keep warm. I will get better...I hope. Janice
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Ernie likes to play in the snow. He's so cute! I love those luminaries. I haven't made them in a long time! Maybe you could try an outdoor flameless candle to keep it lit on the windy nights! Keep warm!!
ReplyDeleteCarla, what a wise thought. I love this quote from you.
ReplyDeleteWe have had a mild winter so far but this morning we are in a deep freeze, but thank goodness, it's sunny today.Take care and stay warm and cosy watching the Cardinals. I saw a male Cardinal a few days ago and it brought great joy to my wintered heart. I also got great joy noticing how the daylight is getting longer.
Hugs, Julia

ReplyDeleteI wish you would keep that cold weather in your part of the state so that I could warm up a bit here. lol. xo Diana
The luminary is so charming! We have had some very cold temperatures but I'm glad to report that they are on the way out. I don't like cold and have a love-hate relationship even with snow, hahaha! xoxo
